Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable LONG-TERM SUBSTITUTE History/Social Studies Teacher to join our highly collaborative Humanities Department. The current teaching assignment is for 10TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES and AP WORLD HISTORY. This position requires a strong commitment to instructional excellence, content expertise, and student-centered learning. Our students are highly motivated and ambitious, and they thrive in a rigorous, supportive academic environment. The dates of this long-term substitute position are 9/2/2025-1/5/2026 (76 days).

Key Responsibilities:

Provide engaging, high-quality instruction in history/social studies
Design and implement lessons aligned to standards and course expectations
Work closely with other humanities teachers to plan curriculum, assessments, and interventions
Use data to inform instruction and support differentiated learning
Foster a classroom environment that promotes curiosity, respect, and resilience
Maintain high expectations for academic success and personal growth
Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues

Qualifications:

Valid state teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement (or ability to obtain)
Demonstrated expertise in teaching history/social studies courses at the secondary level
A collaborative mindset and commitment to team-based curriculum planning
Strong classroom management and instructional design skills
Passion for working with high-achieving and motivated learners

Qualifications:

Certification/License: Washington State Certification as a history/social studies teache

Salary:
Long-term substitute assignments in excess of twenty (20) days will be paid at the contract teacher rate. See LWEA salary schedule posted on website. This position does not meet requirements for state health benefits.

Long Term Substitute Assignments:

Long-term substitute assignments in excess of twenty (20) days will be paid at the contract teacher rate, retroactive to the first day of assignment, except that when, in the judgment of Human Resources, the assignment appears at the onset to be a long-term assignment, the contract teacher rate may be paid from the beginning of the assignment.

Substitutes can become eligible for benefits. See section 22.1.1 through 22.1.4 of the current CBA.
