Description of Learning Opportunities:
The student/intern will be working directly with Senior Leadership on day-to-day business, as well as
supporting
several special projects related to
Special Events and Sales & Marketing.
Placement will allow for learning opportunities and exposure in the following areas.
Sales & Special Events:
- Introduction to, and support of sales & marketing activities including designing collateral as well as creating proposals, cost estimates and related materials.
- Shadow on client site visits and meetings.
- Exposure to all event planning processes, the student will assist with floor plan, schedules/programs, event orders, resumes, vendor lists and related documents.
- Opportunity to work with Food & Beverage, Front of House and other operational teams and learn how event planning supports and works in tandem with other departments.
- Introduction and training on basic accounting functions, costing and budgeting.
- Firsthand experience working with the centre’s major tenants (National Ballet of Canada and Canadian Opera Company) and their patrons.
Special Projects:
- Research, analysis and proposal on local target accounts for business development.
- Explore other business opportunities (digital recording, ticketed public events and commercial activations).
NOTE: Final assignments and areas of involvement will be based on final candidate selection and business needs. Placement will also include a self-directed, personalized Heritage/Capstone project designed to fulfill the student's career/learning objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Final year student or post diploma graduate
- Two to three years of work experience in a performance hall, hospitality, retail or service-related business/organization
- Strong work ethic, ability to work independently, strong attention to detail and creativity/problem solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams etcetera), and ability to quickly learn new software/programs.
- Excellent customer (internal and external) service skills, combined with a positive demeanor and the ability/willingness to provide warm, proactive, solutions-based approach when working with others.
- Financial literacy, with the ability to work accurately and efficiently on vendor quotes and invoicing.
- Ability to work various shifts
