The Pediatric Literacy Nurse Navigator reports to Program Manager and is responsible for the ongoing implementation of Small TALK principles and contributing to the continuous improvement of the initiative throughout Wellstar Pediatric and OBGYN offices and babies within the hospital. The Nurse Navigator is the lead trainer and implementation manager of the Small TALK program across Pediatric, OBGYN, and Mother Baby services - NICU hospital. This role will work with the Small TALK team, appropriate hospital teams, and WMG Pediatric and OBGYN team members to ensure successful launch, implementation, and growth of the Small TALK program. This role will work closely with the training and education team as well as closely with individual office and hospital care teams to educate and train select team members on the Small TALK program. The Nurse Navigator's sole responsibility is the onsite and virtual training, support and implementation of this program and therefore is expected to become a subject matter expert on Small TALK, be able to model, train, assist with questions and challenges of program implementation. The Nurse Navigator will also work closely in collaboration with the Literacy and Justice for All (LJFA) coalition with any necessary program updates or changes. This position requires occasional evening and weekend hours with the hospital implementation.Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Introduces and models Small TALK program with staff * Models effective strategies to educate and coach patient/family to enhance their skills in supporting their child's early language development. * Maintains a professional and patient-centered demeanor. Leads training and implementation of Small TALK program amongst designated departments and team members * Promotes Small TALK throughout the organization * Define staffing and collaboration plan to identify role, responsibilities, and department collaborative leads * Encourages and motivates engagement of all team members in the ecosystem and appropriate use of Small TALK resources * Functions independently and demonstrates leadership in decision-making, communication, and problem-solving techniques to resolve patient/family and staff questions/concerns * Conducts staff training and coaching using adult learning principles in groups and one-on-one in virtual and face-to-face settings * Performs other duties as assigned Collaborates with Small TALK team and Coalition on Program Optimization * Participates actively in program development and continuous quality improvement * Works collaboratively and proactively with internal and external team members * Participate in standing meetings and development planning sessions, as needed to support growth and success of the Small TALK program Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.Required Minimum Education:
- Bachelors Nursing
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.- RN - Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN-COMPACT - RN - Multi-state Compact
- BLS - Basic Life Support
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 3 years or more of pediatric and/or maternal RN experience in an acute, physician or community clinic setting. Required and Interest and/or experience in parent/caregiver education. Required and Interest in early language development from prenatal to 8 years of age. Required and Public health nursing experience and/or Masters of Public Health. Preferred and Clinical supervision experience. Preferred and Teaching/coaching experience with professional and support staff and/or parents/families in groups and one on one. Preferred and Clinical/social/public research experience, including data collection, analysis and reporting. PreferredRequired Minimum Skills:
