Job Summary: This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent reports to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and serves as the Director of the Protocol to the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Major Duties:
- As a DIRECTOR OF PROTOCOL at the GS-0301-15 some of your typical work assignments may include: Plans, organizes, manages, administers and executes protocol activities of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS/VCJCS) and their spouses' official events. Provides authoritative advice and assistance to CJCS, VCJCS and senior Joint Staff leadership. Supervises the planning and execution of office calls, breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, receptions and other events hosted by the CJCS/VCJCS in their respective quarters or other locations within Washington D.C. or National Capital Region. Oversees the planning and execution of the logistical support for official spouse programs related to the CJCS/VCJCS counterpart visit programs, official meetings, and White House events which parallel the principal program. Advises staff regarding policies, procedures, and directives of higher-level management.
Qualifications: You may qualify at the GS-15, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service: Directing and overseeing work with a complex organizational Protocol program and advising on all matters dealing with the program; Creating plans that effectively support and promote the goals and objectives of the Joint Staff and provide guidance to the staff on any matter involving the hosting or sponsoring of social and/or official activities, and events; Managing the planning, coordination, and execution of all protocol aspects of visits of high-ranking U.S. and foreign dignitaries; Planning, coordinating, and executing all special events, meetings, office calls and gift locker duties. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
