Summary:

The Director, Poison Control Marketing plays a critical role on the ASPCA Poison Control team, positioning ASPCA Poison Control as the top resource for animal toxicology services by developing awareness, engagement, and use of the service. ASPCA Poison Control, the leading animal poison control center in North America, is committed to serving pet parents and the veterinary community. ASPCA Poison Control fields over 400,000 calls and manages over 300,000 cases annually. ASPCA Poison Control’s clinical toxicology team supports veterinarians and pet owners 24/7 using a proprietary database containing nearly five million cases.

The Director of ASPCA Poison Control Marketing reports directly to the Vice President, Poison Control with dotted line reporting to the Vice President, Marketing and Communications. The Director participates on the Poison Control leadership team and is responsible for driving business growth and veterinary and public engagement through marketing activities in alignment with the organization’s strategy and in collaboration with Poison Control leadership and the Communications and Development teams. The Director will work collaboratively to ensure flawless execution of our marketing efforts and consistently review key metrics to adjust and ensure strategies are successful.

The person in this role creates avenues to elevate the Poison Control business through engaging veterinarians as our primary audience and secondarily pet owners. The Director is committed to creating connections that improve animal welfare and contribute to the growth of Poison Control’s revenue stream. Strong business strategy and marketing skills are required to deliver on annual objectives and key results. Marketing strategies are designed to capture the attention of the desired audience and target future business opportunities that are aligned with Poison Control’s goals and the ASPCA’s standards.

This is a regional remote position based at a home office within 350 miles of the Champaign, IL Midwest Office. A remote option (with up to 20% travel) for candidates outside of the 350 mile radius is negotiable for qualified candidates (already) employed with the ASPCA and who are currently working outside the 350 mile radius.

Compensation & Benefits

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary ranges for this role are set forth below and may be modified in the future. 

  • Zone 1: $102,000 - $108,000 annually

  • Zone 2: $112,000- $118,000 annually

  • Zone 3: $124,000 - $131,000 annually

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Marketing (80%)

  • Collaborate with the Poison Control business/leadership, marketing, and social media teams to uncover insights for developing marketing strategies
  • Leverage Poison Control growth strategy including audience targets, messaging and financial targets
  • Manage conception, development, and implementation of marketing plans and strategy, product concepts, and promotional programs to drive client interest and sales
  • Spearhead the execution of marketing campaigns in collaboration with ASPCA Marketing, including test and control group segmentation, testing, tracking, results reporting, analyses, and recommendations
  • Lead and oversee paid media plans in collaboration with marketing, development, and social media teams. Manage relationships with related agencies as needed. Collaborate with stakeholders to review pipeline, resolve challenges, and brainstorm possible solutions across Poison Control, Development and Communications teams
  • Partner with the APCC Business Development Director and Senior Director of Events and Creative Strategy & Branding
  • Attend conventions, conferences, and veterinary meetings, preparing engaging displays and collateral to support the Director of Business Development, and provide post-event reports and analysis
  • Support development of business-to-business (B2B) audiences and related marketing strategies in partnership with ASPCA Pro and the Director of Business Development
  • Partner with Development for opportunities for consumer engagement through owned channels
  • Support the development of a content strategy for Poison Control target audiences that builds engagement and drives action through owned channels
  • Provide Poison Control with best-in-class marketing practices for business-to-consumer B2C and B2B audiences
  • Engage with new and existing partners to support product growth strategy as needed

Budget, Measurement and Tracking (20%)

  • Identify short- and long-term scheduling and resource needs, including development and management of the annual marketing budget in collaboration with other stakeholders and leadership
  • Responsible for metrics and tracking tools for market research, forecasts, competitor analyses, campaign results, and client trends, and to translate results into actionable insights
  • Work with VP Poison Control, the Director of Business Development, and Marketing on setting and monitoring actionable KPI’s to measure against product growth strategy metrics.
  • Identify industry trends and monitor competitors to determine opportunities for testing and learning

Qualifications:

  • Successful track record in marketing and campaign creation
  • Experience in digital, grass-roots, and print marketing, content marketing, and social media marketing
  • Proven ability to plan and manage budgets
  • Outstanding leadership and critical thinking skills with ability to motivate and inspire
  • Superior communication (written and verbal) skills with the ability to translate information into a meaningful, understandable context and message
  • Creativity and innovation to develop engaging marketing campaigns
  • Understanding of digital marketing tools and platforms
  • Knowledge of market research methodologies

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years marketing experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • At least 3 years of experience in marketing that includes: digital, grass-roots, print marketing, content marketing, and social media marketing
  • Experience planning and managing budgets required
  • At least 3 years of experience developing and managing paid media plans
  • Experience developing marketing campaigns targeting B2B and B2C audiences strongly preferred
  • Experience tracking marketing campaign metrics and leveraging market research required
  • Professional experience developing campaigns for veterinarians and/or pet owners is a plus
