Citizens Advice Ipswich is looking for new enthusiastic members to join our Trustee Board. people with senior management qualities, with experience in the VCFSE sector, Business Delivery, Statutory Bodies or Local Community

What difference will you make?

Citizens Advice Ipswich provides assistance to over 7,500 clients every year involving around 28,000 separate issues relating to the need for charitable support, debt, benefits and tax credits, employment, relationships and housing issues. Alongside our core generalist advice service, we deliver 12 separate projects these services are delivered by 36 paid and around 40 volunteer staff who do an amazing job in helping the most vulnerable people in Ipswich and its districts. We are the front line in supporting the community, with up to date information on what is impacting households. We have been delivering service under the trusted brand for 50 years (2024). Joining our Trustee Board will give you the opportunity to help sustain this service for many years to come, ensure that the brand remains trusted and the support we deliver remains available for the community. Our Board members are part of privileged group that appreciate the real value of the Voluntary Sector, these trustees help shape and sustain the 'People / Community' of Ipswich. As a representative of Citizens Advice Ipswich , you will have the opportunity to meet a broad range of influential like minded people that make a Real Difference.

What are we looking for?

  • be willing to undertake training in your role Passion about the Voluntary Sector and in particular Ipswich is the real quality that matters to us. We are looking for people that want the future to be better for the community. If you have professional senior experience in the Voluntary Sector, Local Government or Local Business that brings insight and understanding to the issues that we are presented with this would be an advantage. We want to continue to build a sustainable legacy of advice and support for the future; the service has grown as a business and delivers a range of projects for many different funders, it is business focused. Business skills are essential for the good governance of the Charity, ensuring the finances add up, reviewing income generation. Successful bid writing is important and demonstration of value for money alongside social return on the investment for our funders is high priority. Skills in these areas are of interest. Utilising technology to the fullest to reduce expenditure without detracting from the customer experience is an area that needs development, if you have skills in this area that could add value. There is a massive push to work in greater partnership, we would welcome experience of working more closely with the business sector and how this could be advantage to all parties in the future.

What will you be doing?

The Trustee Board shapes strategy and gives direction to the Charity. It supports and monitors the management team, acts as employer for paid staff, ensures the charity complies with relevant law and manages the finances prudently. For this to happen successfully each Trustee has a portfolio responsibility and we are looking to bolster this with an intake of new Board Members. As a business we are measured against 9 different areas annually by the National Charity - Governance; Strategic Business Planning; Risk Management and compliance Financial Governance People Management; Operational Performance; Partnership Working Research & Campaigning; Equality Diversity & Inclusion. Citizens Advice Ipswich have consistently preformed to a high standard achieving high marks in all areas we are audited in, we wish to maintain these standards, through professional quality leadership. In the fast changing environment we work in, understanding change management and the importance of being agile to respond to client needs is vital. Appreciating the value of volunteers, and how any change needs to bring this workforce along to deliver is perhaps more challenging, experience of working with volunteers would be an advantage. We are a client focused service, experience in an outcome based, customer focused background that values making a difference is important to us. Many delivery contracts come with performance targets, these have to be balanced to ensure that the client outcome is the most valued. Finances are always a challenge creating a competitive atmosphere for any available funding, therefore an appreciation of budget setting, income and expenditure will be an asset, alongside income generation experience. We like to work collaboratively with partners from across sectors, increasing funders are looking for delivery of service to involve several partners to achieve better outcomes, experience of partnership working would add real value. We appreciate that these skills are varied, so if you have a particular area of expertise that you feel would add value, we would like to hear from you.
