We have an exciting position for an Operator Grade 2, which involves the inspection and operation of the Sishen Tailings Storage Facility/Mobile Equipment.

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As an Operator Grade 2, you will be responsible to:

  • Perform inspections at fixed time intervals (day and night) as per the inspection guideline provided for the Sishen Tailings Facility
  • Report any deviations noted at the facility as per the guidelines provided
  • Note and record measurements at the TSF as prescribed by the operation manual
  • Move deposition points on the TSF in accordance with the operating philosophy of the facility.
  • Open and close valves as required by the deposition strategy
  • Stop and start clean water pumps as required by the operational requirement
  • Manage the water recovery system of the TSF; this will involve the movement and handling of penstock rings and the operation of the facility silt trap
  • Unblock blocked pipes where required
  • Clear mud to expose deposition pipes for repairs
  • Remove vegetation on the facility where required
  • Clean around pumps where required
  • Train on and operate earth moving equipment as part of developmental program
  • Adhere to all health and safety practices requirements and promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.

This role is in the Processing department in Plant Operations at a P6 level, reporting to the Shift Supervisor

Qualifications

You will need the following:

  • Grade 12 Certificate / N3 Technical Certificate
  • Preferably completed MQA level 2 Plant Learnership / Or Mining Learnership
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Successful completion of Valid Dover: Minimum level 2+ required

Experience:

  • Sound knowledge and experience of Plant processes.
