Our Power & Low Carbon Solutions practice are looking for an experienced Senior Electricity (Power) Markets Modeller to join the team.

The Power Markets Modelling Experts in Baringa combine the latest market intelligence, deep energy market domain expertise and sophisticated modelling tools to provide insights that matter right across the energy industry to our clients. We provide a trusted view on energy markets outlook and share insights that help the industry participants to make informed commercial and strategic decisions. As a senior lead modelling expert in Baringa you will embody our foundational culture of being entrepreneurial, creative and take pride in being at the heart of the energy transition and the changing energy landscape.

What you will be doing

We are looking for talented power market modellers and analysts to join us and contribute to the continued growth of our Power and Low Carbon Advisory team, within our Energy & Resources practice. Working in the Products & Insights team you will be at the forefront of power markets, using our models to generate insight into the future market evolution across in the power sector, develop market scenarios and support business decisions.

You will become part of a high calibre, curious and motivated team. You will get to work on exciting and challenging problems, and to deliver in-depth insights on topics such as energy storage, hydrogen, interconnectors, renewables, and electricity demand flexibility. The role involves working closely with colleagues across our global offices to ensure a high quality and integrated approach to common issues and themes.

You will be working within our experienced our Power and Low Carbon Advisory team to:

  • Lead and create insights into the future market evolution for our clients for European markets. Insights include: market share and supply-side composition, price projections – wholesale, capacity and reserve markets, interconnection, storage and hydrogen, decarbonisation of power sector, risks for new or existing assets.
  • Shape and deliver the development of our market-leading power market scenarios and reports.
  • Use your advanced analytical skills and our in-house market models to become a thought-leader on modelling the big questions and challenges facing the energy industry.
  • Lead analysis in to historical and forward-looking data to draw inferences and conclusions for our clients.
  • Present results in a clear and understandable format to colleagues and clients.
  • Pro-actively engage with internal and external stakeholders and grow the team’s offerings.
  • Lead, mentor, support and develop other team members to ensure an enduring analysis/modelling capability is created/maintained within the team.

Your skills and experience

We’re looking for people to join the team who will be committed to delivering high quality insight and modelling for our clients.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Be intellectually curious and enjoy learning.
  • High level of quantitative and analytical skills and experience; comfortable with interpreting large datasets and working with a variety of models and tools.
  • Understanding of power and related markets.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts and modelling results succinctly to both technical and non-technical colleagues and clients.
  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to influence others, work collaboratively and constructively with project partners, external stakeholders and internal teams to achieve consensus and positive outcomes.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, ability to simultaneously manage and prioritise multiple issues

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Experience of developing energy market scenarios covering long horizons.
  • Experience developing & employing market models. Previous experience with commercial production cost modelling software, such as: PLEXOS, Aurora, BID3, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with data visualization dashboards such as Power BI would be desirable.
  • Experience shaping team or project strategy/vision and project delivery while leading others
