Functional Responsibilities:

With the competing priorities, malaria, which is already underfunded, could see even less money allocated to it within the next year. The situation is made worse by the perfect storm of climate, conflict, biological threats, and already limited funding. These new and ever-evolving complexities make it harder to meet 2030 goals. Already, only less than half the money needed to enable the attainment of SDGS on malaria has been invested. With the little inadequate resources already under threat of reduction, it is important to intensify campaigns that will draw more attention to the devastating effect of malaria on different economic and social aspects of people’s lives and the economies of the most affected countries.

Even as countries apply sub-national tailoring to maximize the impact of existing resources and mobilize domestic funding, 70 percent of funding for malaria still comes from international sources. If adequate resources are not raised and allocated to malaria, countries that are in many cases already experiencing a complicated economic terrain will struggle and we could regress even further in our fight against malaria.

The Consultant - Malaria Investments Campaigns Coordination is expected to;

Develop a Campaigns roadmap and strategy: The consultant is expected to lay down a one-year campaign roadmap that will increase the visibility of malaria and key issues surrounding it, mobilise people at country and global levels to participate and support interventions to eliminate malaria and lead to more public and private investment in malaria. Work with members of the partnership to develop and implement a campaign strategy and workplan identifying top opportunities/ key moments to push the malaria agenda.

Develop Messages: Develop and disseminate powerful messages to influence public thought and targeted decision-makers, including developing key knowledge pieces such as opinion pieces, briefs, and speeches.

Coordinate the partnership: Lead the planning and implementation of the campaign, ensuring inclusive participation of partnership members and adherence to timelines to achieve impact.

Monitoring and Progress Controls

Key Deliverables /Measurable Outputs

  • Malaria investment campaign strategy and workplan (including mapping of key partners and key moments)
  • At least four knowledge pieces (opinions, briefs, analyses, speeches) to be utilised for the campaign
  • Malaria investment messages
  • Partner campaign content toolkit developed inclusively with countries and that can be implemented by the targeted countries


Education/Experience/Language requirements:

Education

  • A Master’s degree preferably in advocacy, communication, international relations, journalism, law, international development, business management, public administration, public health, social science or another relevant field is required.


OR

  • A Bachelor’ s degree will be accepted in lieu with an additional 2 years of relevant experience.


Work Experience & Language Requirements

Required:

  • Seven (7) years of experience in creating and implementing campaign strategies in the health and development sphere
  • Experience in movement building and mobilizing diverse groups and individuals for campaigns.
  • Experience in developing messages for diverse audiences at global, regional and country level.
  • Within the required 7 years, at least 4 years experience in linking country, regional, and global campaigns to achieve greater impact.


Desirables:

  • Experience working in a developing country or malaria-endemic country.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster inclusivity and collaboration.
  • Proven ability to work remotely and collaborate with staff located in other geographical locations.


Language Requirements

  • Fluency in oral & written English is essential. Working knowledge of French is an asset
