Financial Aid R2T4 Specialist

The successful candidate will assist with performing back-end financial aid processing, while maintaining accuracy and compliance with Department of Education regulations. This position requires engagement in student recruitment, admissions and/or financial aid activities.

Per the US Department of Education (ED) Program Integrity Rules, postsecondary institutions that participate in the student financial assistance programs pursuant to Title IV of the Higher Education Act (HEA) are barred from providing incentive payments to any person or entity engaged in student recruiting and/or admissions activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Reconciling student accounts to ensure accurate disbursement amounts and dates between applicable systems
  • Perform audit of scheduled and completed disbursements for accuracy with Department of Education regulations and with school policy and procedures
  • Review accounts for potential missing funds and work towards full resolution with multiple departments
  • Perform Return of Title IV calculations and related processes on applicable student files and semesters
  • Understand Return of Title IV (R2T4) identification requirements, ability to work through reports to identify and cancel as appropriate
  • Review applicable files for Post Withdrawal Disbursement eligibility and complete all necessary follow-up
  • Assist with Quality Assurance review of work for accuracy
  • Ability to navigate and maintain R2T4 related data in a variety of systems for audit tracking
  • Provide accurate and timely follow-through on all tasks and commitments
  • Collaborate with colleagues and remain flexible to workflow and tasks changes to ensure work is completed within established timeframes to achieve organizational goals and meet Department of Education regulations
  • Use critical thinking skills to identify problems and appropriate solutions and ensure situations and issues are addressed proactively through a forward-thinking lens when reviewing accounts
  • Review student information with a strong ethical foundation in an atmosphere of confidentiality and in compliance with federal privacy laws
  • Maintain timely knowledge of regulatory changes within Finance and Financial Aid to ensure compliance with Department of Education regulations and best practices
  • Ability to work independently while effectively managing time to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Create and maintain professional working relationships with third party servicers and various partners to successfully and accurately administer financial aid
  • Provide internal and external clients with a high-quality experience
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Analyzing and synthesizing information to understand issues, identify options, and support sound decision making
  • Effective time management to produce deliverable that meet or exceed expectations
  • Use of specialized skills and knowledge in the completion of job tasks
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Aptitude to think critically and solve problems
  • Ability to utilize multiple systems in transition between tasks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook, Word, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Solutions and detail oriented
  • Prior professional work environment experience with a fast-paced environment with flexible deadlines, and fluctuating service level agreements
  • Proficiency working with multiple software programs
  • Comfort in use of Excel, Access, Outlook, and Teams in professional applications
