The Principal Geotechnical Engineer will enable the planning team to unlock the value of our operations through an integrated Group function. As part of our continuous development, we have an opportunity for an experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer to influence and deliver strategic and tactical objectives for our open cut mines at Evolution Mining.

About the role

This role is responsible for identifying opportunities for value accretion across the business, supporting the development of ongoing and new projects and providing guidance on current Evolution and global best practice and innovation in Geotechnical Engineer matters.

• Maintain and calibrate a geotechnical model for each open pit.
• Recommend pit slopes, berm parameters and ground support designs to ensure maximise the recovery of the resource over Life of Mine, whilst maintaining slope stability and safety for all open cut mines.
• Liaise with site Geology Manager to scope geotechnical investigations and include geotechnical parameters of interest in geological block models.
• Provide third party review and endorsement of the sites’ Ground Control Management Plan.
• Geotechnical input into landform design (waste dumps, tailings dams and Integrated Landforms) and water storage facilities.
• Prepare reporting as requested by Group Manager Long-Term Planning CGO & MGO Assets.
• Provide miscellaneous technical support assigned by Group Manager Long-Term Planning CGO & MGO Assets.

About you

To succeed in this position, you will have proven experience in geotechnical engineering experience in the gold processing and extraction sector. It is also important that you have or can demonstrate:

• Capability in influencing and developing Open Cut Geotechnical Management practices and supporting the professional and technical growth of the geotechnical engineering teams.
• Effectively communicate complex process ideas at all levels with an ability to build relationships across functions and operations from Operator to Board level.
• Proven experience at a comparable level within an organisation in either a Group (or significant Site based operation) where you held accountability, delivering operational efficiency, driving accurate and reliable interpretations/decisions, and implementing best practice in both technical and operational areas.
• Bachelor or Masters qualification in mining geotechnical engineering or related discipline
• Post graduate degree in Geomechanics an advantage.
• Previous 10 years plus open pit experience in the Mining Industry - preferrable Gold.
