Medical Science Liaison – Neurosciences

Purpose of Role


The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field based scientific expert that strategically supports the scientific and business objectives of Neurosciences therapeutic areas across the product life cycle. MSLs are the primary communicators of the client´s science within a specific geography with healthcare professionals. MSLs are the field scientific experts on Neurosciences and treatment options within this therapeutic area. They combine strong business acumen, clinical expertise, market awareness, and serve as a conduit of information to a cross functional customer base internally. Based on therapeutic needs and product life cycles, teams may focus on certain responsibilities, including clinical development and pipeline support.



Key Accountabilities:


Opinion Leader Engagement


  • Identify, develop, and maintain collaborative relationships with current and future Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and healthcare stakeholders in disease states of strategic importance to the company.
  • Provide medical and scientific information to respond to KOLs’ technical questions about the molecule/drug.
  • Identify and engage key TLs, HCPs, and investigators in scientific exchange on disease landscape & client assets.
  • Represent client at select scientific congresses and professional society meetings.
  • Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions (as appropriate) in academic, and healthcare provider setting in both group and one on one settings.
  • Identify, gain access to, and develop professional customer centric based relationships with external experts in Neurosciences within assigned geography.


Scientific Expertise


  • Deeply understand the unique Neurosciences treatment paradigm, key stakeholders, and healthcare landscape in your territory.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain high impact territory plans, including HCP and Investigator engagement plans in alignment with therapeutic area medical and scientific objectives with a focus on quality.
  • Provide education relative to disease state, therapeutic landscape, and the Client´s products across the product lifecycle to healthcare providers and researchers.


Clinical Trial Support


  • Support clinical development and research initiatives across development at the request of R&D to include, but not limited to, site evaluation and identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and involving experts to generate scientific data including investigator-sponsored trials.
  • Gather careful insights from KOLs and report back to company to help develop clinical, as well as commercial strategy.
  • Act as primary liaison to investigators interested in developing and performing investigator sponsored trials.


Cross Functional Support


  • Assist as needed to local tactical activities (coverage of presentations at select scientific congresses, knowledge of contracting local consultants, etc.)
  • Assist in the reconnaissance of Market landscape determination and competitive intelligence including therapeutic trends and unmet needs within the appropriate disease states and marketplace and provide timely feedback/information on emerging clinical/scientific information to internal stakeholders.
  • Respond to external inquiries and deliver appropriate clinical and scientific information.
  • Develop and deliver scientific trainings.
  • Continuously maintain self-education on market issues/trends, product knowledge, and new therapeutic areas of interest as it pertains to specific business responsibilities, including creating awareness and relationships for the Client in the Medical community.
  • Actively participate in relevant team meetings, organizational activities, and Country-driven medical affairs activities (e.g. advisory boards, Masterclasses, Round-tables).
  • Create, maintain, and collaborate in relationships with Cross-Functional partnerships, as appropriate, to develop and execute Account plans designed to support and meet shared scientific or business objectives.


Compliance


  • Operate in a highly ethical manner and comply with all laws, regulations and policies.
  • Complete mandatory training in assigned timelines upon hire as well as when new policies, SOP’s, guidance are issued
  • Adhere to internal standard processes and comply with regulatory and compliance requirements


Qualifications:


  • Doctoral degree in the health sciences from an accredited university required (MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent). Significant clinical and/or industry experience in Neurosciences therapeutic area may be accepted in lieu of education requirements.
  • 2+ years of previous industry medical affairs experience required, preferably in MSL and/or headquartered based medical affairs role.
  • 5+ years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry related experience or equivalent preferred
  • Previous pharmaceutical industry experience within relevant scientific discipline preferred.
  • Knowledge of healthcare system and understanding of treatment landscape, diagnostic testing, and reimbursement in your country/assigned region.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building relationships and participating in credible scientific exchange with multiple audiences. Networking skills and confidence to interact with senior experts on a peer to peer level.
  • Experience with clinical trial design, conduct and evaluation.
  • Thorough knowledge of local (several countries or territory) legal, regulatory, and compliance regulations and guidelines relevant to industry interaction with health care professions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to present medical/scientific information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to function well, both independently and within a team setting, in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Team orientated and ability to work collaboratively towards common objectives.
  • Proficient user of standard MS Office suite (e.g., Word, Excel), experience using electronic document management systems, and document review tools desirable.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to effectively multi-task and manage time-sensitive and highly confidential documents.
  • Prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Fluent in English and fluency in the language of a local country is required.
  • Able to travel internationally, up to ~75% of time.
