Job Requisition: Cement Finisher General Foreman / Superintendent

Position Summary
The Cement Finisher General Foreman / Superintendent is responsible for planning, directing, and managing self-perform concrete operations on large-scale commercial projects across the southwest. This role provides leadership for setup, placement, finishing, and curing activities, ensuring work is executed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity. The General Foreman / Superintendent manages multiple crews and oversees equipment utilization, material procurement, and labor strategies to support aggressive project schedules.

Working closely with Project Superintendents, this position drives crew hiring, training, and workforce development while fostering a safe, disciplined, and results-oriented culture. The role requires strong technical knowledge of concrete trade fundamentals, proven experience leading large crews, and the ability to coordinate complex operations in a fast-paced construction environment. The Cement Finisher General Foreman / Superintendent is a critical link between field execution and project self-work success, ensuring effective delivery of self-perform concrete scopes on high-value projects.

Key Responsibilities

Trade Fundamentals

  • Demonstrate mastery of concrete placement, finishing, and curing.
  • Manage trade-specific competencies.
  • Review formwork installation and alignment with placement planning.
  • Verify mix designs, slump, and concrete delivery compliance.
  • Direct pump, bucket, and conveyor placement operations.
  • Ensure finishing techniques meet specified tolerances and flatness/levelness (FF/FL).
  • Oversee curing methods, including wet curing, chemical curing, and temperature control.
  • Supervise vibration, consolidation, and strike-off methods.
  • Monitor placement sequencing, joint layout, and control joint installation.

Safety Leadership

  • Lead and support project safety culture.
  • Conduct hazard recognition, daily safety reviews, and accident/near-miss investigations.
  • Oversee material handling. 
  • Company and industry safety program planning and compliance.

Quality Control / Safety

  • Manage Trade level QC/Safety process.
  • Support concrete placement checks and trade fundamentals.
  • Reinforce QC/Safety recognition programs.
  • Lead troubleshooting for surface defects (honeycombs, spalls, cracks) and implement corrective action.

Team Management

  • Integrate new hires and manage craft personnel evaluations.
  • Support craft training, growth, and discipline processes.
  • Lead crews on HP self-perform concrete work.

Planning & Production

  • Support self-performing material ordering and production reporting.
  • Manage labor recap reporting and workforce allocation.
  • Develop and / or contribute to 4-week look-ahead and 90-day schedules.
  • Support logistics and workforce strategies.

Equipment & Labor Management

  • Equipment inspections, maintenance, manuals, selection, and transport.
  • Manage HP-owned and rented equipment
  • Purchasing, selection and use of equipment and finishing tools and equipment.

Financial Management

  • Monitor labor and equipment costs.
  • Production reporting.
  • Assist in forecasting and tracking self-perform financial performance.

 

Qualifications

  • Tenure & Roles
    • 10+ years of commercial concrete finishing and concrete experience.
    • Minimum 5+ years in a Foreman or General Foreman leadership role.
    • Progression from Cement Finisher through supervisory levels.
  • Project Experience
    • Large-scale commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects ($50M+ project costs).
    • Large-scale commercial industrial, or infrastructure self-performed concrete projects
    • Expertise in self-performance concrete:
      • foundations, slabs, elevated decks, tilt panels, site concrete, paving.
    • Experience with large crew management (20+ craft workers) and multiple sites.
      • preference given to personnel and logistics management.
  • Technical Knowledge
    • Proficiency with ACI/ASTM concrete standards and finishing tolerances.
      • Current certification preferred, must have willingness to get certified.
    • Skilled in heavy equipment, finishing equipment, inspections, and maintenance.
    • Ability to read/interpret blueprints and specifications.
    • Ability to select, submit, adjust and manage mix designs.
    • Proficiency with labor and production reporting systems.
  • Leadership & Management
    • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and grow craft personnel.
    • Strong proven record of driving positive safety culture.
    • Demonstrated financial awareness:
      • productivity, cost controls, equipment utilization.
  • Other Requirements
    • Strong communication skills with regional leadership, project teams and craft.
    • Valid driver’s license and mobility to travel between project sites across the Southwest.
