Department Description
The Information Technology department is responsible for the implementation, provision and support of all information and technology services within the firm. The IT department is a Business Services function that supports and contributes to the objectives of the legal practice. Members of this department are expected to be a part of the firm's culture and be committed to providing a high quality of service to our customers.
Quality Assurance Services (QAS) operates within the Architecture and Technology Design function. The QAS team provides resources programs and projects, covering the full range of Quality Assurance disciplines, including project risk assessments, manual and automated testing, change control governance and QA project management.
The key objective of the team is to reduce the risk of production failures during the introduction of new products, software and hardware updates, and changes in support processes.
Leveraging a catalogue of services, QAS works with peer teams to determine the right coverage required for projects balancing risk with cost factors and schedule. QAS is a global team with its members in multiple Hogan Lovells sites and vendor locations across multiple continents.
Deployments are global, hosted within offices, public cloud and in third-party data centers and other locations operating under contracts with Hogan Lovells.
Role Overview
The Quality Assurance Manager oversees the Quality Assurance Services function, ensuring the effective delivery of all software testing and testing processes for the firm.
The function comprises a retained organisation of 4 Hogan Lovells resources, augmented by resources from third-party testing organisations. The size of the third-party teams scale to meet demand for testing.
The role is responsible for managing the budgeting, estimating, planning, developing, and delivering testing of technology services and systems for both Business as Usual services and IT projects delivered to the firm, ensuring adherence to standards and adoption of best practices.
The team collaborates with Architects, Engineers, and other stakeholders in multi-disciplinary teams, providing expert-level subject matter expertise to the Architecture teams, Application Development / Implementation teams, the CISO team, and the relevant Infrastructure & Operations teams to coordinate quality expectations, plans, and assurance resources for projects.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Coordinates quality expectations, plans, and assurance resources for projects with project stakeholders. Reviews requirements and specifications for planning and executing test scenarios and verifying expected behaviours.
Manage reviews and approvals for Quality Assurance tasks as part of the Hogan Lovells Change Management Process.
Manages employee and consultant resources as appropriate.
Provides mentorship and technical supervision to team members.
Ensures that Quality Assurance engagements and deliverables are of the highest quality in both technical capability and supporting documentation.
Supervises complex firm projects with cross-business function impact and multiple test phases.
Measures, analyses, and reports on test activity.
Works with vendors on quality of deliverables, pricing, and resource management.
Builds and masters familiarity with business applications and IT products to ensure an appropriate, measured approach to quality assurance.
Executes Quality Assurance activities supporting process improvements, including change control, release deep dives, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Strategically drives and improves the team’s delivery and output.
Modernises processes for Quality Assurance, including documentation, test processes, and procedures. Tracks industry advancements in technology and practices, recommending appropriate changes to support firm growth and initiatives.
Manages training oversight and delivery for quality assurance best practices across internal and external teams, including vendor delivery, external testing, and change control ticket review.
Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
Minimum of 8 years' experience in a Quality Assurance role or related job function.
Demonstrated understanding of Quality Assurance as it relates to IT projects and project management.
A background of working in a complex, multi-disciplined team Providing Quality Assurance for complex software development and package implementation projects.
Management experience of in a highly integrated environment.
Experience of working with geographically distributed teams.
Excellent working knowledge of Azure DevOps testing tools or similar.
Familiarity with ISO9000 and / or CMMI family of standards is a plus.
Backgrounds in any of Test tools architecture, Quality Assurance Artificial Intelligence, and development are a plus.
A desire to continually seek to improve performance levels by taking advantage of new technology, while anticipating changes in market practices, industry trends, and process trends.
Experience in several application lifecycle management techniques including agile, waterfall, and iterative development.
A high-level understanding of Agile methodologies paired with working knowledge of Agile toolsets and experience working in an Agile team.
A clear understanding of the DevOps mindset, collaboration, automation, and tooling.
Knowledge of technology solutions in the legal industry a plus.
