Additional Information: Show/Hide Varsity Wrestling Assistant Coach
The function of a coach is to properly educate students through participation in interscholastic competition. The interscholastic program is designed to enhance academic achievement and should never interfere with opportunities for academic success. In recognition of this, the following are some guidelines for coaches.
Coaches are educators and should set an example for student athletes.
Coaches shall serve as a positive role model for their players.
Coaches shall encourage student-athletes to maintain good grades.
Coaches shall encourage and develop the sense of community.
Coaches shall instill in student athletes the importance of good sportsmanship.
Coaches shall practice good sportsmanship
Coaches shall always be professional.
Responsibilities:
Instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Assess player’s skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and evaluating of the athletic performance of the students.
Developing and implementing the basic framework and philosophy with determining game strategy.
Supervising athletes during practices and competition.
Adhere to injury procedures established by the Merrimack Athletic Department.
Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Model professional behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
Have the total athletic and school program at interest. Be supportive of student participation in other school activities.
Be familiar with and adhere to the Coaches Handbook and school board policies, particularly those governing student nondiscrimination, anti-harassment, bullying, mandatory reporting, student record confidentiality, and other pertinent school board policies.
Perform other such duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be requested by the varsity head coach.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior high school coaching experience and/or college playing experience.
CPR/First Aid Certification
NFHS Certification
Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
Knowledge of NHIAA rules
Demonstrated ability to instruct, lead and supervise student athletes
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
