Position Summary

The Assistant Softball Coach will support the Head Coach in all aspects of the Salem College Softball program. This position is responsible for assisting in practice planning and execution, game-day coaching, player development, recruiting prospective student-athletes, and promoting a positive and competitive team culture in alignment with the mission and values of Salem College and NCAA Division III. Along with driving the 15-passenger vans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach in planning, conducting, and evaluating daily practices and competitions.
• Provide individual skill instruction and feedback to student-athletes to enhance performance and development.
• Assist in the recruitment of qualified student-athletes in accordance with NCAA Division III, USA South Conference, and Salem College guidelines.
• Support student-athletes’ academic success, personal growth, and leadership development.
• Contribute to the scouting of opponents and preparation of game strategies.
• Assist with travel planning, equipment management, and game-day operations.
• Promote a team culture of respect, integrity, discipline, and sportsmanship.
• Support fundraising, community service, and promotional activities for the program.
• Ensure compliance with all institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Previous competitive experience and/or coaching experience in softball
• Strong understanding of NCAA Division III rules and philosophy.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
• Commitment to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and the academic success of student-athletes.

Physical Functions

While performing the responsibilities of the Assistant Softball Coach, the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 30 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
