Role

As Hugh Baird College continues to expand its offerings in the field of construction, we are excited to announce two new roles that reflect our commitment to growth and excellence. We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to fill positions as Lecturers in Carpentry & Joinery to join our construction team.

As a Lecturer, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment to ensure that our students achieve successful learning outcomes and progress to their chosen destinations. While previous teaching experience and/or a recognised teaching qualification are desirable, we also welcome applicants with a passion for the industry and a commitment to fostering the growth of future professionals.

You'll use your professional expertise to deliver engaging and effective teaching across our programmes up to level 3. This role caters to 16–18 year-old learners, apprentices, and adult groups. Your responsibilities will encompass the entire educational spectrum, including planning and preparation, marking, day-to-day communication with students, and administration tasks such as admissions, enrolment, registration, and attendance tracking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of courses as assigned, ensuring that every student receives the guidance they need to succeed.
  • Implement effective feedback and assessment systems to monitor learning progress and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
  • Uphold the standards of our Quality Assurance framework.
  • Manage course administration and organisation as needed.
  • Contribute to innovative curriculum development and implementation.
  • Maintain a professional and motivating learning environment, applying effective behaviour management practices.
  • Continuously develop your teaching skills for the benefit of student outcomes.

Essential Criteria

  • Possess a minimum of a relevant Level 3 vocational qualification
  • Track record of successful teaching experience across a range of levels, including up to level 3
  • Recent industry-related experience relevant to the academic discipline
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant course subject matter and examination and assessment requirements
  • Understanding of value added and the use of progress performance measures
  • Experience in developing and maintaining external partnerships to enrich teaching and learning. 
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and raise the aspirations of learners through high-quality teaching
  • Possess a qualification in Maths and English levels 4 – 9(GCSE Grades A – C) or equivalent
