PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Veteran Services Supervisor will oversee and drive outreach efforts aimed at connecting veterans, transitioning service members, and their families with essential resources and services. This role emphasizes establishing and nurturing partnerships with community organizations, employers, and government agencies to strengthen support networks and enhance program delivery.

The Supervisor ensures veterans have access to employment opportunities, training programs, and transitional services that support their career and life goals. By leading community engagement initiatives and supervising outreach staff, this position plays a vital role in advancing the organization’s mission to improve the well-being and professional success of veterans.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to the Veteran Services Operations Manager with latitude for independent judgment and decision making in defined areas of responsibility.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Directly supervises the veteran outreach staff and veteran employment staff as assigned.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides direction, supervision, and support to the outreach, training, and employment staff of the Tierney Center for Veteran Services (TCVS).  Oversees day-to-day operations and ensures team performance aligns with program goals and metrics.  Promotes teamwork and collaboration, fostering a supportive and productive work environment.  Develops and distributes outreach materials to recruit veterans and their families into TCVS programs, with a focus on the Community Integration Model and related veteran services.  Establishes and maintains partnerships with local military installations, community agencies, and government organizations to expand program reach and awareness.  Organizes and participates in high-visibility community events such as resource/career fairs and local government ceremonies.  Supervises veteran training and employment services, including partnerships with the VR&E (Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program).  

Develops pipelines for training programs ensuring a steady flow of qualified veteran candidates.  Provides vocational training and career readiness support to help veterans secure and sustain meaningful employment.  Ensures accurate and timely record-keeping for program participants, including data entry in the Warrior Serve database and compliance with SOPs.  Manages program reporting and billing, ensuring adherence to U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and organizational standards.  Assists service members, transitioning warriors, and their families understand, apply for, and utilize their benefits.  Drives on company business.  Performs other job related duties as required.  Safeguards company property, including donated goods. Reports any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of company property.  Acts safely at all times, following all safety rules and regulations.  Follows all company policies and procedures.  Promotes and demonstrates cooperation and teamwork. Assists and shares knowledge and information with other employees as needed.  Uses good interpersonal skills such as courtesy, sensitivity, politeness, and thoughtfulness.  Works with, trains, and/or acts as a good example for program participants receiving training at Goodwill. 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Prior experience in community outreach and direct job placement services.  Prior experience connecting veterans to resources and benefits.  Familiarity with local service providers serving veterans.  Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Effective grammar, English, and writing skills.  PC Proficiency in MS Office.  Ability to maintain participant confidentiality.  Ability to accept responsibility, take initiative, problem-solve and exercise good judgment.  Ability to be flexible and adaptable in handling interruptions and variation.  Reliable transportation, a valid California driver’s license, and auto liability insurance acceptable to Goodwill’s insurance company.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior/current US military.  Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, e.g., human services, social work, or equivalent experience.  Prior experience with Salesforce.  Experience creating and maintaining financial and data tracking metrics.
