We're currently seeking a passionate and skilled Plant Accountant to join our team and contribute to our mission of delivering high-quality, engineered solutions to our customers worldwide. In this role you will be the key financial partner for our manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for the preparation of the plant's monthly financial statements, ensuring the integrity of our financial data, and providing essential analysis and insight to support operational performance and cost control.
The Plant Accountant will be a vital link between plant operations and corporate finance. This individual will manage all aspects of plant-level accounting, with a focus on standard costing, inventory valuation, and variance analysis. They will collaborate closely with the VP/GM and the Operations team to drive efficiency and profitability.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close:
- Lead the plant-level monthly financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate journal entries and account reconciliations related to inventory, COGS, and manufacturing costs.
- Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) to plant management and corporate leadership.
- Assist with the preparation of ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed.
Cost Accounting & Analysis:
- Assist in maintaining the standard cost system, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and overhead application rates.
- Conduct detailed monthly analysis of manufacturing variances (e.g., Purchase Price Variance, Labor, Overhead, Scrap, and Yield).
- Partner with Operations to identify root causes of variances and recommend specific actions for cost reduction and process improvements.
- Provide cost data to support new product development, pricing decisions, and operational efficiency initiatives
Inventory Management:
- Oversee all inventory accounting functions, including valuation, reconciliation, and reserves for obsolete or slow-moving inventory.
- Manage and reconcile perpetual inventory records to general ledger balances.
- Coordinate and oversee physical inventory counts and cycle count programs, investigating and resolving discrepancies
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Collaborate with the Operations team to develop and manage the plant's annual operating budget.
- Provide ongoing support for financial forecasting, particularly for manufacturing costs and inventory levels
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Ensure all plant accounting processes and controls follow company policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing accounting environment.
- Knowledge of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Plex, JD Edwards) is required.
- Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, etc.) are a must.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to partner effectively with both financial and non-financial personnel.
- High attention to detail, a proactive problem-solving mindset, and the ability to work independently.
