Additional Information: Show/Hide Applewood Centers, Inc. and The ReserveSchool are looking to hire Teacher Aides for the 2025-2026 school year. Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties.
The Reserve School is a private school serving students in grades 6-12 placed in residential treatment facilities in Northeast Ohio. Students at The Reserve School receive specialized educational services to address emotional, social and behavioral deficits that have impacted academic functioning. The school provides a therapeutic environment that teaches skills to prepare the students for a return to the community.
Position Summary: Teacher Aides are a part of an interdisciplinary team that is expected to provide the highest caliber of instruction in the classroom.
Responsibilities Include:
Provide assistance to teachers and therapists in applying positive behavior management principles within a designed, individualized behavior program for students.
Provide individual assistance in implementing the academic program designed by the Teacher within the Teacher's classroom.
Under supervision from teachers, applies behavior management strategies within team designed behavior management program.
Protect children from physical and emotional harm emanating from themselves, others, or the environment.
Properly handle emergencies such as injury, runaway, and acting out situations in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.
Demonstrate pro-social, mediation, and self-management skills.
Develop trusting, positive relationships among students and staff.
Identify student's immediate needs, reports same to Teacher and provides follow through as defined by the Teacher/Team.
Respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained during the client’s treatment. All client-related documents should be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of the student record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards. All documentation to be submitted within set program deadlines.
All required training, certifications and licensure must be kept current in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
Provide care of students, which includes supervising students when using restroom, care of sick students, assisting during bus and school transitions.
Qualifications:
Education: Associates Degree required. Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field preferred.
Licensure/Credential: Current appropriate Ohio Department of Education license.
Skills:
Possess basic knowledge of child and adolescent development, human sexuality, family dysfunction, psychology, sociology, and behavior theory.
Openness to multi-disciplinary and eclectic approaches to treatment.
Demonstrate strong clinical skills including systemic family therapy, crisis intervention, family education, behavioral interventions and substance abuse therapy. Sensitivity in relating to persons of varying backgrounds and demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups of people possessing various strengths, aptitudes and abilities.
Demonstrate ability to perform job responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.
Demonstrate oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills. Practical and creative problem solving skills
Proficiency in using Agency computer systems and software as required to perform essential job functions.
Experience: Experience working with children, adolescents, and their families.
Other: If applicable, must maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the underwriting criteria of the Agency’s insurance company
