Role and Responsibilities: The Supervisor, Financial Accounting, manages the accuracy and completion of all internal/external financial reporting and assures that reporting is performed in a timely, efficient manner. The Supervisor also provides assistance to the Controller and Chief Financial Officer as needed. The Supervisor is also responsible for the integrity of the work product of employees who report to this position.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyze, evaluate and file the annual convention blank with the NAIC, state departments of insurance and industry-related rating agencies (A. M. Best, ACLI, Weiss, etc.).
  • Analyze, evaluate, and file quarterly financial statements with the NAIC, state departments of insurance and industry-related rating agencies.
  • Analyze and evaluate monthly financial statements.
  • Manage completion and accuracy of financial statements for Board of Directors meetings.
  • Resolve questions about proper accounting for unique transactions.
  • Remain knowledgeable about current pronouncements and issue papers relating to statutory accounting practices - assist Controller in research.
  • Assist Controller with accounting-related goals/objectives.
  • As directed by Controller, assist Chief Financial Officer with various analytical projects such as the analysis of premiums & commissions, pro-forma statements, analytical notes for board meetings, and budget information.
  • Prepare and file statement for Separate Account.
  • Prepare financial statements, tax returns and regulatory reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) for Southern Farm Bureau Fund Distributor, Inc.
  • Manage the completion and accuracy of audit workpapers for annual external audit. Interact with the external auditors/examiners on matters specific to this and subordinate positions.
  • Directly manage and monitor daily transactions of subordinate employees: Senior Treasury Management Analyst, Financial Accounting Analyst, and Accounting Control Clerk.
  • Provide back-up assistance to Senior Treasury Management Analyst for daily cash reporting and wire transfers on an as-needed basis.
  • Approve invoices for payment up to $2,500.
  • Train and evaluate employees as needed.
  • Interview employment applicants and make recommendations for departmental hiring.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or business-related field
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Demonstrated complete knowledge of financial accounting/reporting
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to work independently
