Summary

This position supports the After School Program operation, an intensive outpatient program for at-risk youth, by providing quality face-to-face support and supervision to agency clients, with the intent to assist individuals in developing social and behavioral skills for successful functioning, attending, and succeeding in educational endeavors, and preventing or reducing out-of-home placements and hospitalizations.

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct psychosocial group services to child clients, up to the age of 18 years of age, in an effort to teach individuals to develop appropriate behaviors and personal attitudes for successful functioning at home, school, and in the community.
  • Monitors all clients in the program for appropriate behavior and safety, with close guidance and supervision to clients who may be assigned specifically to his or her care.
  • Assists in facilitating daily activities and trips.
  • May transport individuals to and/or from various locations as required by specific work assignment.
  • Designs, prepares, and leads the program curriculum for a specific developmental skill to be taught to the children in the program.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of all client services, as defined by state licensing agencies, funding agencies, and CrossWinds standards and requirements. Submits all work-related paperwork in a timely manner and in an acceptable format as determined by agency requirements.
  • Motivates program clients to achieve and improve individual social skills by creating a positive model for them to emulate.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship and professional demeanor with clients, external community partners, agency staff members, and visitors.
  • Attends applicable staff meetings conducted by CrossWinds.

Work Environment

This job operates in a community setting, as well as in a professional office setting. This position primarily works with clients in a group setting and within the agency’s residential facilities. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; handle objects; grasp and reach for items with hands and arms; manipulate hands and fingers; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is required to become certified in Managing Aggressive Behaviors (MAB), which includes training in proper restraint/physical intervention techniques to be utilized as a last resort. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Language skills are required, including the ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak the English language. This position also requires the ability to interpret written materials, write reports and business correspondence, and effectively present and respond to questions.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience

One year of experience in the health and human services field is preferred.

Certifications & Licenses

Computer Skills

Computer experience in Microsoft Office programs and basic computer fluency.

Additional Qualifications

Ability to work with persons with serious emotional disturbance; ability to work independently and as a member of a therapeutic team; possess demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to react effectively in a variety of human service situations.
