About the Department

Under the supervision of the Recreation Center Manager, the Fitness Attendant’s responsibilities are for the maintenance and supervision of the Cardio and Weight Room equipment located in the Recreation Fitness Center. Welcome, greet and provide assistance to facility users. To do equipment orientations as scheduled. To keep the Recreation Fitness Area clean at all times, including sauna and restrooms.      

Position Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   The following list was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: 
 

  1. Provide safe and effective instruction of all cardiovascular and weight training equipment.
  2. Conduct equipment orientations.
  3. Offer useful, tactful, and safe advice to individuals regarding their exercise program and/or use of equipment.
  4. Maintain and clean exercise equipment and surrounding areas.
  5. Inform facility users of various Recreation sponsored programs.
  6. Enforce all facility and program policies.
  7. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Recreation Center Director.
  8. Effectively handle member complaints and situations, while reaching a prudent solution pending the approval of your Recreation Center Director.
 
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
 
Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Current CPR certification/AED Training 
  2. High School Diploma
  3. Basic Knowledge of health & fitness

  19. Ability to work with little or no supervision. 
 Knowledge / Skills Required for the Job
  1. Ability to use and operate a variety of strength training and cardiovascular equipment. 
  2. An understanding of the strength training and cardiovascular exercise. 
  3. Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology. 
  4. Ability to assist individuals in developing a safe and effective exercise program. 
  5. Good communication skills. 
  6. Excellent customer service skills. 
  7. Good time manager.
  8. Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Physical Demands
 
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects up to 50 lbs, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and distinguishes between shades of color. 
 
Work Environment
 
Work is performed in a normal office environment with some exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust.
