The Controls Lead Technician will be responsible for the safe maintenance of the control and electrical systems in the plant. The Controls Lead Technician will be a leader and subject matter expert in electrical safe work practices and troubleshooting problems and work to improve the skills of the maintenance team in this regard. The Controls Lead Technician will assist in upgrade and replacement projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding Electrical Safe Work Practices 
  • Act as a backup to the Maintenance Supervisor 
  • Assist in the planning & execution of preventative & emergency maintenance of plant production equipment and infrastructure directly and by developing maintenance procedures and work instructions related to controls and electrical equipment ensuring compliance with safety for the department 
  • Ensure that all department workers adhere to safety policies and procedures 
  • Assist with oversite of Electrical & Controls spare parts inventory and ensures orders are placed to replenish when needed 
  • Manage relationships with contractors and service providers as required to support the business 
  • Support the effective use of a computer software program to schedule all maintenance work orders including PM, and the storage of needed spare parts 
  • Supports the SHE, production, & maintenance teams with hands on or remote technical support on day shift as well as afternoons, evenings, and weekends when necessary 
  • Actively engages with operators and supervisors to ensure safe & efficient production practices 
  • Participates in identifying safety, quality, and process improvement opportunities, prioritizing, as needed and implementing effective both short term & long-term corrective actions 
  • Supports and participates in plant safety activities and training, specifically driving safety improvements 
  • Provides troubleshooting support for facility & production related issues working directly with the affected team to identify the causes and implement effective solutions 
  • Participates in the administration of the Permit to Work & Management of Change (MOC) programs which includes, but is not limited to, development of operating procedures, hazard evaluation, training of personnel on changes, and updating of Process Safety Information 
  • Develop and maintain facility & production related procedures, training materials, and documentation to facilitate consistent and safe manufacturing practices meeting applicable requirements of Process Safety Management. 
  • Acts as the technical expert for all Control, Drive, & PLC related activities. 
  • Supports & sometimes runs capital projects, delivering projects on time and on budget 

 Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Advanced problem solving and design/facilitation skills 
  • Previous experience driving production related improvements 
  • Proven ability to initiate and drive change 
  • Strong knowledge of facilities, machines, and equipment  
  • Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Must be able to work flexible hours on an as needed basis 
  • Function effectively in a team environment  
  • Experience in planning maintenance operations 
  • Electrical/Instrumentation experience  
  • Experience programing PLC’s and Drives, sizing motors, & designing control systems 

 Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED Required
  • At least 1 year of experience in plant production, maintenance environment, or similar role.

Physical Requirements:

  • Monday through Friday, Day Shift. Must be able to come in on the off shifts and weekends as requested.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds as needed.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Frequently positions self to use/maintain personal protective equipment.
  • Comfortable with working in a manufacturing environment alongside machines, equipment, etc.

 Travel Requirements:

Time spent away from home or typical office location.
