Job Description
Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Lecturer of Sociology. This position will teach 24 credits per academic year in Sociology with possible opportunities to teach in Women and Gender studies minor.

The Department of History, Law, & Society houses majors in History, Criminal Justice, Interdisciplinary Studies, and more. The Sociology Program at Nevada State is one of the largest minors on campus serving students in the department as well as across campus including business, criminal justice, psychology, education, nursing, and more. For these reasons, the candidate will need to speak to their ability to work with and teach in a cross-disciplinary environment. Primary Responsibilities:
- Teach 24 credits per academic year, which amounts to four courses per semester.
- Teach lower- and upper-level courses in Sociology in a variety of formats (e.g., in-person, hybrid, online). Half, or more, of this instructional load will be dedicated to core courses in the sociology program: https://nevadastate.edu/program/sociology-minor/.
- Serve on departmental and university-wide committees.
- Engage ongoing professional development activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Sociology or related field.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and a genuine interest in joining Nevada State.
- Demonstrated dedication to or interest in working with a diverse student population.
- Ability to teach the following courses:
- SOC 101: Principles of Sociology
- SOC 441: Social Inequality
- SOC 453: Gender and Society
- SOC 471: Racial and Ethnic Relations in America.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in Sociology.
- Experience and training with teaching in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and/or Interdisciplinary Studies (as there are opportunities to contribute to our WMST program housed in History, Law, & Society such as teaching WMST 101, Intro to LGBTQ Studies, and more).
- Experience with (or desire to teach) online, hybrid, or evening classes.
- Vested interest and/or experience working with first-generation college students and/or a minority-serving institution.
Rank, Salary & Benefits:
9-month. Non-tenure track. Budgeted salary for this position is $48,440. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 19.25% retirement match, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
