Additional Information: Show/Hide The Dumont School District is seeking to employ a Truant Officer for our district, which is a 10-month stipend position (Salary Range $10,000-$11,000 for the school year), effective 09/01/2025.
TITLE: Truant Officer
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Has some direct experience with Law Enforcement 2. Has earned college credits beyond a High School Diploma 3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board of education may find appropriate, acceptable and meet the required guidelines.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools or designee, Building Administrators
JOB GOAL: The Truant Officer will serve as the district’s liaison between families, the local law enforcement and the district administration.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must be available on all school days to communicate with administrators and registrar and make home visits when necessary
Visit homes of students who cannot be contacted by mail, phone or other form of communication
Check on and confirm student residency issues
Check-in with families for any attendance related issues deemed necessary
Contact parents concerning missing documentation required by the district
Address school attendance issues with parent/guardian
Investigate issues involving transportation of students in/outside of the district
Be familiar with attendance, truant, and registration policies
Be familiar with violations and penalties related to attending school
Work with families of students with chronic attendance issues
Provide documentation related to family’s responsibility as it relates to school attendance
Hand deliver communications to families when necessary
Provide the district with written reports following family visits and/or investigations
Work with school administrators and local law enforcement to help students understand the importance of attending school
Coordinate efforts with district and building administrators
Maintain communication with the district registrar
Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as are assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month contract. Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluations
