Who we are:
Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. We've grown nearly 100 years old now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as "Culinary Ambassador" promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 8,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment and supplies.

Compensation:
Base Salary + Incentive + Company Car + Gas Card
Location: El Monte, CA
Hours: M-F: 8AM – 5PM
Essential Job Functions
• Meets the monthly and annual sales quota as designated by the manager
• Visits customers and potential customers to provide support, information, and sell the Company’s products, with emphasis on Japanese speaking clientele
• Coordinates with the accounting department to assure the collection of payment in a timely manner
• Maintains high levels of customer satisfaction by providing excellent service and building rapport
• Responds to and communicates with all customers in a timely manner
• Coordinates urgent deliveries with the customer and the warehouse to accommodate the customer’s needs
• Educates customers on how the products or services can benefit them
• Inputs and updates orders within the Company database in a timely manner
• Maintains and safely navigates the Company vehicle as per the Company Vehicle Policy
• Participates in the weekly sales meetings
• Attends semiannual inventory count on designated day, possibly on a weekend
• Attends Company events and functions outside of normal working hours
• Other duties as assigned
• Obligation to answer to all management as requested
Physical Requirements
• Able to use a car and drive for a majority of the daily working hours
• Able to reach, bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
• Able to use the phone throughout the day
• Working Conditions
o Noise Level: Normal while in the office
Other Requirements
• Conversational level English required; Business level English preferred
• Business level Japanese required; Native level Japanese strongly preferred
• Has and maintains a clean driving record
• Maintains a positive attitude
• Works efficiently independently and in a team
• Adapts to frequent changes in assignments and workload
• Passes the Sake Adviser course within 1 year of employment
• High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree and above preferred
• Minimum 3 years of food wholesale/distribution experience required, preferably in the Japanese food industry
• 5 years of food wholesale/distribution experience preferred
Knowledge and Skills
• Possesses basic mathematical knowledge such as counting inventory, markup and discount calculations, weight and measurement conversions, combining, etc.
• Has strong communications and interpersonal skills
• Has strong problem-solving skills
• Has basic Microsoft Office proficiency
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Knowledge of Japanese foods and liquors required
