Purpose of the Role

This hybrid role blends operational leadership with tactical production planning. The Operations Supervisor will lead a production team on the floor (including 2nd shift oversight), while also owning the daily and weekly production schedules. They will balance people leadership with planning, drive continuous improvement, ensure timely delivery, and optimize capacity and resource usage.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

  • Direct and coach the shift production team to meet Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost targets.
  • Enforce and support company HSE protocols and conduct safety audits.
  • Create a culture in the shop focused on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Resolve issues during 2nd shift in the absence of senior leadership.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and enforce disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Secure resources, provide training and development opportunities.
  • Ensure organized work systems, procedures, and policies for optimum performance.
  • Monitor labor utilization, work order performance and team metrics.
  • Lead team communications, safety meetings, audits, and escalation processes.

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain detailed production schedules aligned with capacity and orders.
  • Adjust plans due to changes in priorities, material availability, or conflicts.
  • Release daily/weekly work orders and coordinate closely with team leads.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Procurement, Engineering, and Quality.
  • Escalate capacity issues to Master Scheduler or Operations Manager as needed.

Continuous Improvement & Systems

  • Drive Lean tools such as 5S, A3, Root Cause Analysis, and Standard Work.
  • Support and utilize ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and scheduling dashboards.
  • Lead and track OES initiatives and visual management boards.
  • Identify delays or inefficiencies and implement data-driven corrective actions.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in supervisory or planning roles within manufacturing.
  • Experience managing employee relations and escalations independently.
  • Strong understanding of Lean principles and safety standards.
  • High School diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with ERP tools such as SAP and digital reporting dashboards.
  • Strong communicator with ability to lead under pressure and deliver results.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and ability to use planning and visual tools.
