General Summary:

The Purchasing Specialist will play a key role in driving profitability and customer satisfaction by procuring materials efficiently and cost-effectively, adhering to the company’s best practices. They will manage supplier relationships, oversee procurement activities, and ensure pricing is aligned with optimal order quantities. The Purchasing Specialist will analyze market trends, cost fluctuations, and sales data to time purchases strategically and prevent overstocking of inventory.

 

This is an in-person position that will be expected to report to our local office 8:00am – 4:30pm daily.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Procure materials efficiently and on time by following established processes within the ERP system.
  • Develop processes to attain required inventory turns per year.
  • Coordinate vendor activity and negotiations.
  • Analyze trends in supplier pricing, lead times, and sales order activity to determine the correct timing of purchases.
  • Track supplier purchases for on-time delivery, price control, and consistent quality; report quality issues to suppliers promptly.
  • Work with individual product line groups to optimize the reduction of excess and obsolete materials.
  • Collaborate with other departments to improve processes and procedures related to inventory activities.
  • Actively work with engineering, suppliers, and sales to ensure a smooth transition of new products from development to production.
  • Report price increases from the supply base to the manager. Document increases and provide a total increase to the manager for our sales price lists. Work with the manager to negotiate price increases.
  • Develop primary and secondary suppliers for all products and components.
  • Issue purchase orders to selected suppliers and manage each stage of the PO process through receiving.
  • Verify the accuracy of computerized purchasing records.
  • Demonstrate literacy in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and ERP systems.
  • Review purchase orders for compliance with corporate policy.
  • Maintain current pricing and vendor cataloging.

 

Education:

Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one or more year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

Minimum one to two years related experience in purchasing environment.

Contact with others:

Provides routine information to and solicits situation specific information company wide from employees, managers and external relationships and general inquiries. Participates in group brainstorming and problem-solving sessions. Maintains confidentiality.

Supervision Received:

Minimal daily supervision receives goals and basic procedures for project assignments. Must handle prioritization with a variety of competing activities. Performs tasks independently with periodic supervisory review/audit. Seeks guidance to ensure complete and appropriate action.

Working Conditions:

General office environment with minimal physical effort. Good working conditions requiring normal safety precautions. Frequent use of personal computers.
