Description
The Bartender is responsible for set up, preparation, and service of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Responsibilities
- Follow set up prescribed pre- and post-shift procedures
- Inspect the bar prior to opening to ensure that adequate supplies are available
- Request additional supplies as necessary and stock the bar in preparation of service, not limited to liquor, beer, wine, ice, napkins, straws, glassware, and other accessories
- Prepare garnishes, mixes, and pre-mixed drinks, including slicing, pitting and skewering garnishes
- Greet members and guests upon arrival, using proper verbiage and names if applicable
- Take beverage orders from members or wait staff and serve drinks as requested, paying extreme attention to detail
- Satisfy member and guest requests in a timely manner
- Assess customer preferences and making drink recommendations.
- Mix, prepare and serve drinks to members and guests and mix and prepare drinks ordered by servers according to the recipes approved by the Manager
- Maintain knowledge of all drinks, menu items, garnishes, and preparation methods
- Report complaints to a manager as soon as they occur Maintain and clean the bar area and equipment to keep a sanitary environment
- Regularly inspect all front- and back-of-the-house service areas and equipment to ensure that sanitation, safety, and preventive maintenance are met
- Maintain records of liquors, beers, wine, tobacco, and sundries to ensure bar stock is always maintained
- Attend staff meetings including pre-shift (line-up) sessions as required
- Serve drinks to members and guests seated at lounge tables in the absence of a server
- Stock, clean and lock up the bar area according to prescribed closing procedures
- Carefully follow all laws and club policies and procedures regarding alcoholic beverage service and inform manager if continued service to a member or guest is in question
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- HS Diploma or GED
- Experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified or any similar combination of education and experience
- Demonstrate a high caliber of professionalism and presentation, commensurate with the expectations of a private club setting
- Ability to demonstrate organization and coordination skills and ability to meet deadlines and ability to multi-task in a sporadic, fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain quality and safety standards and receive TIPS certification
- Strong reasoning ability and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills to a wide variety of constituents
- Excellent interpersonal/relationship-building skills
- Proven record of providing excellent customer service
Desired Qualifications
- 2+ years of bartending experience in upscale or private club settings
- Strong knowledge of cocktail technique, and overall bar operations
- Extensive cocktail, spirits, and wine knowledge preferred.
- Excellent communication, organization, attention to detail, and time management
- Comfort working with private membership, serving the same individuals and their families multiple times per week
- Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs; manual dexterity for drink prep, garnishing, carrying, and bending
- Must be able to handle hot and cold interior and exterior conditions and exposure to dust, fumes and gases
- Must be able to work in close proximity to moving machinery
- Independent mobility
