JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for supervising and participating in the installation, maintenance and repair of plant electronic equipment and controls.

REPORTS TO: The Water Treatment Plant Superintendent assigns work in terms of general instructions.

Position Duties

  • Monitors treatment plant performance and associated digital, electronic, pneumatic, and electrical controls to ensure optimal efficiency.
  • Detects and troubleshoots potential problems.
  • Trains, directs, assigns, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
  • Performs maintenance on all plant electrical, electronic, digital, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies.
  • Installs new electrical equipment and processes during plant modifications, minor plant expansions, and laboratory additions; mounts equipment and runs conduit and electrical wiring in accordance with electrical codes.
  • Creates schematics and documents changes.
  • Performs periodic calibration procedures on all electrical and pneumatic instruments; documents results for required state and federal reports.
  • Provides leadership and assistance to plant employees in other areas; assists in the training of plant personnel.
  • Oversees the purchasing of related plant equipment; acquires competitive prices; develops specifications; maintains inventories.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • One (1) year experience in a related field of work. 
Special Qualifications:
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain an appropriate state-certified license for surface water treatment.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid State of North Carolina Electrical License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The work is typically performed in an office, a water treatment plant, and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as steel toe shoes, earplugs, masks, goggles, and gloves.
