- Office in Burlington
Role Overview:
The Buyer/Planner – Appliances, Furniture & Electronics acts as the account owner for supplier relationships, managing the full lifecycle from onboarding and sourcing through to daily execution and long-term growth. This is a hands-on, operational role focused on ensuring suppliers deliver against commitments, while also driving ongoing improvement in supply reliability, margin performance, and inventory alignment. This role will also play a key role in vendor growth, assortment strategy, and evolving category ownership over time.
What you'll be doing:
- Own the full supplier relationship—from onboarding to daily execution and long-term growth planning.
- Actively manage current suppliers, spending significant time weekly chasing orders, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring accurate delivery flow.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and access to B-channel and secondary market inventory (e.g., open-box, overstock, discontinued).
- Surface new sourcing opportunities and bring them forward for evaluation.
- As processes stabilize, take on more strategic ownership of product lines—growing categories, expanding assortments, and helping shape the merchant strategy.
- Build buy, sales, and delivery plans based on sales history, demand, and promotions.
- Leverage analytics to highlight aged inventory, SKU gaps, and supply mismatches.
- Support automation and smarter decision-making around inventory buys.
- Maintain balanced inventory levels across warehouses, ensuring availability while controlling cost.
- Track and adjust orders in real-time based on actual sales, vendor reliability, and market trends.
Who we are looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain, Merchandising, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in retail buying or planning, ideally in appliances, furniture, or consumer electronics.
- Deep understanding of merchandising cycles, retail operations, and consumer behavior within the home goods sector.
- Strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage complex vendor relationships.
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle).
- Strong analytical mindset and ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Experience with secondary market inventory and B-channel sourcing (e.g., open-box, scratch-and-dent, discontinued) is a plus.
What we offer:
- A competitive base salary, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage.
- Enjoy the flexibility of hybrid work with occasional travel to attend in-person team meetings or events.
- Access to exclusive discounts on SecondShop products for yourself and your family.
- As a growing startup, SecondShop offers ample opportunities to take on new challenges, contribute to shaping the company’s future, and take ownership of key initiatives.
- Join a passionate and mission-driven team that values collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to sustainability and responsible shopping.
- Align with a company that believes in sustainability, smart spending, and improving the lives of Canadians. You'll have the chance to make an impact every day!
