ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a News Reporter to join MoneySavingExpert.

MoneySavingExpert.com’s News and Investigations Team covers breaking news and conducts in-depth investigations across a wide range of personal finance and consumer topics. 

You’ll work across a variety of content – from fast-paced urgent stories to long-form investigations across everything from banking to travel, and savings to shopping. You will bring fresh ideas, write news people can use and execute your stories in an engaging and accessible way. 

You’ll also be helping to deliver content for the weekly ‘Money Tips’ email, the MSE app, and our WhatsApp channel – all different ways to get users the information they need to better manage their finances. 

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  •  You will be pitching, researching and writing news stories and investigations that make a difference to our readers in an engaging way with absolute attention to detail and accuracy. 

  • Championing news within MoneySavingExpert and helping us break big stories which are picked up elsewhere.  

  • Playing an active role in pushing MSE’s campaigns agenda. 

  • Writing, and where necessary, updating guides on newsworthy topics. 

  • Contributing content to the weekly email – ‘The Tip’, which reaches over 8 million people per week.  

  • Contributing towards other mediums we use to communicate to readers, including the MSE app and the MSE WhatsApp channel.  

  • Helping the team to analyse performance data to better learn how best to reach our audiences. 

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

  • Proven experience as a news reporter. 

  • An appetite to pitch and break big news stories. 

  • An ability to bring to life often-complex subjects. 

  • Good understanding of online journalism, with some experience using analytics, search optimisation and social media.  

  • Attention to detail. 

  • Proven experience working to tight deadlines, with strong time management and prioritisation skills. 

  • The ability to muck in as a team player to get tasks done.

INTERVIEW PROCESS 
1. 30mins call to run through your experience and the role in more depth

2. 60mins interview. A timed task will be sent out prior to this interview stage and asked to be returned. The task will be discussed, along with both competency and behavioural questions.
