Job Description:

This role supports the Manufacturing and Food Production Operations, working hands-on in the Manufacturing environment to ensure all products leaving our facilities meet Wegmans high standards of food safety and quality, as well as other regulations including the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and Safe Quality Foods (SQF) certifications.  You will perform and document a variety of tests on both new and existing products, packaging and equipment; ensuring stores receive the best products for our customers.  Operations locations may include Bakeshop, Culinary Innovation Center, Cheese Caves, and Ice House.

What will I do?

  • Interact with, support, and educate a diverse team of production and manufacturing operations employees on quality, food safety initiatives and certification requirements
  • Maintain professionalism in all situations; adapt to frequent changes throughout the day, and a fast-paced environment
  • Deliver incredible customer service to our stores through efficiency, quality, and accuracy
  • Perform and gather documentation for quality assurance testing and inspections on Wegmans Bakeshop, CIC, Cheese Cave, and ice house products, materials, equipment, processes and sanitation
  • Conduct physical, chemical, and sensory tests in production and laboratory environments, complete pre-operations and operational sanitation checks, microbiological sample prep and environmental swabbing
  • Perform physical, visual and document verifications to support the compliance of food safety and quality plans and respond accordingly to findings
  • Perform HACCP, Food Safety, and Quality plan record reviews; identify opportunities to eliminate re-work, waste (product and packaging materials), and contamination hazards
  • Use Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), knowledge, and experience to evaluate risk; stop or hold production and alert appropriate parties for any non-compliant or potentially hazardous findings, contribute in corrective action discussions and solutions
  • Interact with regulatory personnel
  • Communicate and collaborate with Business Partners (Production, Buyers, Maintenance, Sanitation, etc) and Leadership
  • Maintains a passion for quality and food safety

Preferred Qualifications

  • Entry level manager experience, food manufacturing experience or a degree in a related field
  • Experience in food manufacturing or Quality Assurance
  • Experience with good manufacturing practices
  • Experience with HACCP/Food Safety plans, programs, and/or systems
  • Experience with Good Laboratory Practices
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing methods, testing equipment, and laboratory practices
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
