Job Summary
Knowledgeable and competent in the operations of Ultrasound equipment and all associated equipment. Operates Ultrasound equipment with a high level of expertise to obtain images of body organs, structures and pathology. Maintains a high level of technical expertise to assist in the development of departmental scanning techniques and protocols. Possess supervisory skills required to manage the sonographers in day-to-day operations.
Essential Functions
- Supervises activities of the ultrasound staff and students daily. Monitors staff's productivity, accuracy of exam protocols, and appropriate patient care.
- Evaluates performance of personnel and recommends salary increases.
- Counsels employees as necessary on professional performance and/ or personal
- Responsible for orientation of all new staff to include proper documentation. Performs competency checks of staff on an ongoing basis with appropriate
- Schedules and rotates the ultrasound staff on a continuing basis. Approves PTO time for staff.
- Updates the SOP manual with exam protocols through PRG. Interacts with the section chiefs concerning changes in protocols.
- Participates in departmental QA program as needed.
- Rotates emergency call schedule when needed.
- Assists in operations as needed.
- Organizes in-services for continuing education of the ultrasound staff.
- Maintains professional and effective working relationships with all clinical areas, staff, physicians, and patients.
Physical Requirements
Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies up to 600 pounds with assistance. Work requires walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting during normal operation. Requires mental skills to read and comprehend patient orders and technical materials. Motor coordination needed to operate heavy and delicate equipment. Intact sense of sight and hearing.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (S) required. Vascular registered preferred. Graduate of a comprehensive medical diagnostic ultrasound program preferred. BLS HCP certification from AHA required. Interpersonal skills required.
