A Brief Overview
Stationary Engineer is responsible for operation of high pressure boilers and maintaining the operation of a building's mechanical and utility systems. This position checks operation of all installed machinery and safety equipment periodically as programmed, as well as inspects areas of buildings for personnel and patient protection (fire and safety) and recommends corrections. Stationary Engineer perform at journeyman level, makes emergency repair of equipment or apparatus as required. Installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs mechanical and fixed equipment as directed, as well as carries out preventive maintenance programs.

What you will do
- Operates and maintains steam generating boilers, follows manufacturer’s recommended procedure for boiler operations, mechanical distribution systems and performs major repairs when required.
- Participates in preventative maintenance program on all mechanical and electrical distribution system.
- Constantly aware of piping system, inspects oxygen, gas, steam and water pipelines; perform repairs and fabrications in a journeyman fashion as necessary.
- Performs preventative maintenance and periodic test runs of emergency generating plants to ensure operations during an emergency, tests always performed according to schedule.
- Maintains all required records and information pertinent to cost out work assignments to include materials and labor.
- Determines whether repair or replacement is necessary, prioritizes schedule of repairs.
- Consistently checks and performs all fire and safety equipment checks. Maintains required fire and safety code records; records are current and available to authorized individuals or agencies.
- Installs, maintains and repairs various machinery, equipment and fixtures in the hospital following applicable building codes.
- Assists in major and minor utility shut down requested by various departments, outside contractors, and in-house.
- Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital. C-I-CARE is the foundation of Stanford Healthcare – ValleyCare’s patient-experience and represents a framework for patient-centered interactions
Education Qualifications
- High School graduate or GED equivalent
- Prefer license in one or more construction/building trades or disciplines
Experience Qualifications
- Five (5) years of directly related work experience
- Prefer background in hospital or industrial maintenance
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of industrial electricity and three phase motors.
- Ability to operate standard tools, instruments and equipment used on the job
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to solve problems and identify solutions
- Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Strong command of the English language
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to adapt to and deal with a changing environment
- Ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization
- Basic computer skills
- Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility
- Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and repairs.
- Knowledge of infection control guidelines

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $47.71 - $64.96 per hourThe salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
