About This Opportunity  

We are seeking an organised, energetic and confident Rights and Contracts Associate to support the effective and efficient operation of the Rights and Contracts department at University of Queensland Press (UQP). Reporting to the Rights and Contracts Manager and working closely with the Publishing team, this is an administrative support position that is responsible for the management of UQP’s royalties, third-party permissions licensing, and administration support of UQP’s domestic and subsidiary contracting.

UQP is one of Australia’s oldest and most respected publishing houses and won the ABIA Small Publisher of the Year award in 2025, 2023, 2022 and 2021.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Coordinate UQP’s royalties by loading payments and sales data into RIGHTS20|20 and formatting and sending UQP’s biannual royalty statements to authors and stakeholders. Liaise with University of Queensland’s Finance Department on all matters related to UQP’s royalty payments.

  • Assist with the accurate payment and invoicing of advances, royalties, rights and other income streams to UQP authors.

  • Respond to author, agent and UQP internal queries regarding advance and royalty payments, and provide status on contracts, as required.

  • Assist authors with the registration and administration of UQP’s CAL and ELR/PLR according to industry best-practice.

  • Coordinate UQP’s incoming third-party copyright permission requests, licensing and administration according to industry best-practice.

  • Assist with the development and administration of domestic subsidiary contracts and addendums in line with industry best-practice.

  • Assist in the facilitation of UQP’s rights reversion requests.

About You  

  • At least three (3) years, experience working in the book industry with a minimum of one (1) years of experience in a rights and permissions administration role within a publishing house; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. 

  • Experience in licensing and contracts.

  • Strong administration skills, including ability to prepare and monitor book royalty statements and interpret financial reports.

  • Demonstrated high-level organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and meet deadlines.

  • Confident use in a wide range of computer applications including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Experience in the use of RIGHTS20|20 would be considered an advantage.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia and others as required.
