Join our team as a Labor/Grounds Specialist where you will play a key role in supporting campus operations by handling a variety of groundskeeping tasks. The Labor/Grounds Specialist supports campus operations by performing a wide range of groundskeeping and general maintenance duties. Responsibilities include landscaping, pest control, equipment repair, event setups, snow removal, recycling, and occasional custodial tasks. This role requires the ability to work independently, lead crews, and interact effectively with various campus partners.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to the Operations Area Manager
WORK SETTING:
Position works indoors and outdoors, in all weather and seasons.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm
Position is classified as part of essential services. Individuals are required to report to work even if the campus is closed or has a delayed opening/early closing due to emergency/exigent circumstances.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Grounds & Landscaping Maintenance
Perform routine landscaping tasks within assigned areas including, but not limited to: mowing, weeding, pruning, Leaf removal, mulching, and chemical application.
Assist in project planning, create scopes of work, and lead assigned crews.
Equipment Operations & Maintenance
Operate and maintain grounds & custodial equipment and tools, including preventative maintenance.
Train and support staff in landscaping and custodial equipment maintenance.
Campus Operations
Assist with event setups, equipment/furniture moves, pest control, snow removal, litter and recycling management.
Follow OSHA standards and University safety procedures.
Submit and track work orders
Manage supplies and materials.
Other Duties:
Participates in all aspects of program and department planning and in the establishment of department goals and objectives.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Professional Work Experience: A minimum of up to one year of experience in maintenance or grounds, including use of related tools and equipment
Current and valid driver's license. Post-offer background checks, including criminal history and driving record, will be conducted.
General knowledge and experience in various aspects of groundskeeping
Ability to understand oral and written instructions and perform basic math calculations
Demonstrated ability to perform work in a safe and appropriate manner
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness
PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED:
Education: Completed or continuing education in vocational training or related areas
Pesticide License/Certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to move around work sites
Move, lift and carry up to 75 pounds unassisted
Daily exposure to dust, dirt, weather and temperature changes
Must use proper safety equipment and mechanical/power equipment

16.00-18.15The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
