Are you ready to turn up the heat on your culinary career? At Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, we’re looking for a passionate and experienced Cook 1 who’s ready to step up and become a driving force in the kitchen. This is more than just a cooking role — it’s an opportunity to showcase your culinary expertise, help lead a talented team, and create unforgettable dining experiences every day.
 
As a Cook 1, you’ll bring your professional knowledge of ingredients, techniques, and kitchen operations to the table. You’ll support senior culinary leadership and take on key responsibilities in supervising daily food preparation, cooking, and quality control — all while delivering on Hyatt’s high brand standards. You’ll play a vital role in delighting our guests and inspiring your team, so excellent communication skills are necessary.  This person must be available to work any day of the week including weekends and holidays, typically between the hours of 4:00am - 4:00pm.
 

What You'll Do:

  • Take charge of food production and kitchen operations

  • Supervise and mentor kitchen staff to ensure consistency, efficiency, and excellence
  • Collaborate with chefs on menu innovation, special events, and holiday offerings
  • Ensure food safety, sanitation, and equipment maintenance standards are always met
  • Assist in managing schedules, training, evaluations, and daily communication within the kitchen
  • Lead by example with professionalism, precision, and pride in your craft
  • Contribute to achieving outstanding guest satisfaction and team engagement scores

The hourly rate for this position is $30.70 per hour.

  • In-depth skills and knowledge of all kitchen operations
  • Possess strong leadership, organization, and relationship skills
  • Experience with training, basic financial management, and customer service preferred
  • Proficient in general computer knowledge
  • A true desire to exceed guest expectations in a fast-paced customer service environment
  • Capable of producing a consistent product in a timely manner
  • Strong training and communication skills
  • Culinary education and/or on the job training, hotel experience preferred
  • Flexibility to work a varying schedule based on business needs
  • Minimum three years working in Garde Manger is preferred
