We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health Assistant & 5-8 Classroom Aide to join our team! The Health Assistant & 5-8 Classroom Aide will support both the VCS 5-8 Health Office and 5-8 classrooms. Supporting tasks may vary depending on the scope of the day, the primary responsibilities will be to assist with Health Assistant related duties (student health support/documentation/parent communication) and Classroom Aide orientated tasks (instructional support, small groups, activity and AM/PM duty).
Requirements
Role and Responsibilities:
- Respond to student health situations and triage with K8 health/administrative staff to determine the path of support
- Provide basic health care and assessments for 5-8 students in the event of injury or illness
- Maintain 5-8 health records and state immunization records on students.
- Assist and support the K4 nurse when needed.
- Dispense medication and monitor the health of students with medical conditions.
- Communicate with staff and parents regarding student health needs/situations.
- Maintain 5-8 health office, order supplies, and make copies as needed.
- Schedule and assist with vision and hearing screenings for students. Assisting with small groups and grade level assessments
- Provide classroom and teacher support for instruction
- Assist with AM/PM duties, as well as activity and lunch duties
- Logistical support (copies/gathering and sorting of materials) for staff
- Assistance with 5-8 campus activities and events
- Provide classroom coverage when required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Organize CPR/1st Aid classes for 5-8 grade staff and teachers
- Assemble First Aid Kits for each 5-8 grade classroom and playground. Prepare First Aid kits/medications as needed for camps and field trips. Communicate with parents re: any medications that need to be dispensed during camp or field trips. (ex: Science Camp, 8th grade trip)
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is a consistent testimony among others

- Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
- Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver license
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Ability to multi-task with organization
- Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with outside vendors and businesses
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma
- First Aid and CPR certified
- Health care and/or foundational level medical training
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience working in a health care/medical setting, specifically in supporting the health needs of students/children
- Post Secondary Education and/or training desired, but not required
- BSN or RN degree preferred; otherwise, experience or credentials in a health-related field
- (3) years of experience in school office setting
Physical Requirements:
- Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time
- Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time
- Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
- At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs (2-story)
- Use of hands, fingers, arms to reach, grip and maneuver objects
- Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)
- Work in noisy and crowded school environment
- Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when needed
- Frequent walking throughout the campus
- Work around small children including sitting, standing, running and climbing stairs
- Must be able to lift and carry small children up to 40 pounds in case of emergency
