POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Sports Official brings an energetic, positive attitude and a firm understanding of sports rules to communicate and build relationships with youth engaging in YMCA sports programs. 
 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Officiate sports games for all levels of recreation (K-8) and competitive (3-5) Sport Programs, maintaining game rules and YMCA standards.
  2. Resolve claims of rule infractions or complaints from participants and assess necessary penalties
  3. Inspect game sites to ensure participant safety and compliance with requirements
  4. Gather feedback from coaches, peers, and supervisors and act on feedback given to maintain a fun, safe environment for participants.
  5. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, coaches, and other staff.
  6. Follows all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies, procedures, and standards as established and implemented by law, and the Y. Reports and maintain proper documentation of incidents/accidents as they occur. 
  7. Mentors Level 2 referees, supporting and empowering them as they practice their skills
  8. Participates in the YMCA Sports training development.


 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least one year of experience working with youth, coaches, and adults in a sports setting
  • At least one year of experience as a Sports Official preferred, with demonstrated ability to make consistent calls with proper technique
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific trainings upon hire
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

STARTING PAY: $19.10/hr
