About the Department

 Our dedicated team is looking for a brilliant, friendly, and customer service-oriented individual with a strong office management background to serve as our Senior Office Assistant.

Performs a wide variety of responsible clerical, administrative and technical support duties in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to providing excellent customer service. Some of the work may be complex; some work may require knowledge specific to the department/division. May serve as a lead worker.

Minimum Requirements

  • Completion of High School with a diploma or a GED.  Prefer some training to include:  business school, or coursework in Office Administration.  
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in a responsible clerical position.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.

Additional Requirements

  • Requires thorough knowledge of current business practices and protocols involved in providing services and quality customer service to the public.  Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, dictation, and presentation software required.
  • Extensive contact with the general public, related agencies, community organizations, agency staff, and other City departments.
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
