The purpose of this class is to implement, coordinate, and provide administrative support for the Unity Office, and will assist with employee education and engagement, systems review, reporting, and communications to execute department objectives and initiatives. The class works under general supervision of the Executive Director, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services or Community Services field or closely related major to include training in diversity training/education.
  •  A minimum of one year of full-time equivalent experience in community outreach, community development or community organization or closely related experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding access, equity, diversity, inclusion, implicit bias and institutional racism.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask. Careful attention to detail and accuracy in performance of job duties.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Requires ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
  • Requires considerable amount of these work duties to be performed during evening hours and on weekends.  
  • Requires local travel.   
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
