Santa Monica Proper Hotel is a luxury boutique property located steps from the iconic Santa Monica Pier and Third Street Promenade. This sophisticated 264-room hotel features distinctive design, world-class dining at Palma and Calabra restaurants, a rooftop pool deck, and exceptional meeting spaces. We are seeking an experienced Assistant Front Office Manager with strong leadership skills and a passion for hospitality excellence to join our front office team.

Position Responsibilities 

  • Assist with overseeing and supervising guest arrivals and departures while maintaining high service standards
  • Ensure guests' needs and concerns are responded to in a timely, professional and friendly manner
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards
  • Establish a positive and effective working relationship with all departments in the hotel
  • Ensure all necessary reports and forms are completed daily
  • Monitor and control daily revenues and expenses by ensuring procedures are followed and proper controls are in place
  • Evaluate team performance and take appropriate corrective action as needed to hold colleagues accountable
  • Uphold and enforce luxury hospitality service standards throughout all guest interactions and team operations

  • Outstanding leadership and team building abilities
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making capabilities
  • High standards of professionalism with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal that allow for smooth interactions with members, staff and vendors
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to empower others to be successful, supportive of the operations
  • Excellent communications skills both written and oral
  • Advanced beverage knowledge relating to service and inventory management
  • Ability to supervise subordinate colleagues, including, but not limited to, assignment of duties, evaluating service, and taking disciplinary action when necessary
  • Ability to engage with customers/guests as well as colleagues and be especially empathetic to the needs of both constituencies
  • Knowledge of food including its preparation and service 
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws (specifically California) 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred  

 Experience 

  • Prior experience in luxury or lifestyle hotels preferred
  • HMS experience is a plus
  • Minimum 2-3 years of management or supervisory experience
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Flexible schedule - Willing and able to work shift duties that may include evenings, weekends and holidays
