The Greater Rural Opportunities for Women 2 (GROW2) project is funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and implemented by MEDA.  The GROW2 project is women-focused, driven by a strong market system approach, and fully integrates Gender Equality, Social Inclusion, Environmental Sustainability, Human Rights, Nutrition, and Innovation in its implementation. The Project will increase the economic and social empowerment of women farmers, entrepreneurs, and agribusinesses in the Northern, Savannah, and Upper West Regions of Ghana through increased productivity, and an improved business environment focused on the soybean and groundnut value chains. 

 

 

Position Summary

The Short Term Technical Assistant (STTA) will provide technical support to the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Unit, focusing on community engagement, socio-economic empowerment, and gender-transformative programming. The STTA will work closely with stakeholders, partners, and community actors to facilitate the implementation and documentation of GESI-related activities. This role offers opportunities for professional development through mentoring, fieldwork, and participation in strategic learning events.

Key Responsibilities

 

Nutrition and Community Engagement – 25%

  • Support the coordination and documentation of Ghana Health Service (GHS)-led visits to Nutrition Community Partners across twelve districts.
  • Assist GHS in organizing and monitoring quarterly radio discussions on key nutrition topics.
  • Promote sustainability strategies through engagement with GHS, communities, and stakeholders.

 

Socio-Economic Empowerment and Male Engagement – 20%

  • Coordinate quarterly joint monitoring visits with Key Facilitating Partners (KFPs) and the Department of Gender to community-level Gender Equality Champions (GECs).
  • Facilitate review sessions for 202 trained GECs, supporting performance assessment and learning exchange.
  • Promote male engagement initiatives through targeted community outreach.

 

Gender Action Learning System (GALS) Implementation – 20%

  • Participate in follow-up visits by GALS Champions to conduct community-level couple meetings.
  • Support documentation of household vision journeys and their outcomes.

 

Public Sector and Institutional Engagement – 15%

  • Collaborate with Gender Support Networks (GSNs) in the Northern and Upper West Regions to plan and implement quarterly activities.
  • Assist in planning and executing advocacy campaigns for the International Day of the Rural Woman.

 

Behavior Change Communication and Advocacy – 10%

  • Facilitate and document review meetings and refresher sessions with Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) partners.
  • Strengthen coordination and visibility of SGBV activities within communities.

 

Documentation and Reporting – 10%

  • Ensure accurate documentation and archiving of all GESI unit activities in the designated SharePoint folder.
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports detailing progress, key outcomes, and lessons learned.
  • Provide data and evidence to support project-wide reporting on GESI and nutrition interventions.

 

Additional Duties:

Undertake any other responsibilities as assigned by the Nutrition and GESI Officer. 

 

Position Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.

 

Experience

  • Experience in community engagement, gender equality, or social inclusion programming in Northern Ghana.
  • Familiarity with Ghana’s gender and nutrition landscape preferred.  
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Strong coordination and relationship-building skills with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and execute tasks effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under pressure.

Contractual Notes

  • This is a full-time, fixed-term STTA contract from September 2025, to December, 2025. It does not create employment relations. 
  • The position includes mentorship and training opportunities with experienced teams.
  • The STTA will receive monthly payment in accordance with MEDA budget, accomplished deliverables and agreed terms.
