scope and responsibilities
Position Summary:
This person will be responsible for and execute end-to-end legal activities related to Oaktree’s new global capability center in Hyderabad, India. The role will be based full time in Hyderabad.
Responsibilities include:
Advising Oaktree’s corporate teams with respect to operational activities primarily in the Hyderabad office, including advising on corporate structuring, governance, employment, regulatory filings/registrations and drafting of constitutional and other related documents;
Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, managing intellectual property matters (including contentious matters), handling litigation/disputes and advising on various other general corporate and commercial matters;
Liaising and coordinating with regulators and government authorities on ongoing business and operational activities, and assisting with maintaining Oaktree’s Hyderabad entity (which, over time, may grow into other Oaktree Indian entities);
Assisting HR on lifecycle activities including preparation and negotiation of employment agreements, and separations;
Providing litigation support;
Providing guidance, conducting research and monitoring new requirements on Indian matters, including regulatory issues, licensing matters, regulatory inspections, inquiries and investigations, trading activities, anti-bribery, data privacy, cybersecurity and anti-money laundering;
Working closely with members of the Legal, HR, Compliance, Accounting and other departments in Los Angeles, London and Hong Kong to coordinate the various responsibilities;
Coordinating, managing and working with various external advisers;
Over time, managing and supervising certain legal department personnel that are based in Oaktree’s Hyderabad office or other India offices as needed,
Performing other tasks and projects as necessary.
Experience required
Willingness to relocate to Hyderabad, if necessary.
At least 8-12 years of experience with a law firm and / or within the financial services industry or asset management industry.
Ability to review, draft and negotiate contracts including commercial agreements as well as corporate documents is required.
An understanding of Indian labor laws, and regulatory frameworks and processes is preferred.
Experience in dealing with senior business stakeholders and managing ambiguity, especially in a highly matrixed organization.
Exceptional English writing, drafting and communication skills are mandatory.
