The General Investigator Section (GIS) Sergeant (NCO) supervises and leads a specialized team that conducts detailed risk-based and evidence focused investigations. The GIS NCO assigns and reviews work, and manages team members; the team collaborates on complex investigations and projects. The GIS NCO and their team may be deployed to emergencies, crime scenes and demonstrations/protests in order to bolster the organization’s response to in-progress incidents. The GIS NCO is a proven investigator and leader with experience as a Primary Investigator, File Coordinator and Team Commander. They have demonstrated competencies in the areas of risk assessment, risk management and victim safety.
Job Description:
- Uniform position supervising and leading teams to conduct a wide array of investigations and identify solutions to complex problems
- Working rotational 11.43 hour shifts following a (4-5-5) shifting model. Start times no earlier than 5:30 am and no later than 7:30 am
- Oversee and supervise GIS constables, including the Missing Person Investigator, Missing Person Coordinator and Domestic Violence Coordinator positions
- Collaborate with supervisors and members across Divisions to facilitate the effective management, assignment and completion of investigations and proactive targeted projects
- Work collaboratively with other Sections and Divisions to intake appropriate files to the GIS
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners and effectively work with partner agencies
- Work proficiently in the Major Case Management environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to mentor others, and effectively manage teams
- Demonstrated experience supervising Domestic Violence investigations
- Supervisory level knowledge of BC Missing Person Investigation Standards
- Possess supervisory level affiant and interview skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise complex investigations
- Experienced MCM investigator including the Team Commander Role
- Fundamental understanding of the Crown/Police Disclosure MOU
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively under compressed timelines
- Experience in the management of Confidential Informers
- Experience leading teams in response to critical incidents
- Demonstrated experience planning, implementing and leading projects
Eligibility:
- Open to all members at the rank of Sergeant.
