The Constable responsible for the Reserve Constable Program (Reserve Coordinator) is tasked with selecting, training, mentoring and managing up to seventy (70) Reserve Constables. This role involves the management of a variety of programs, portfolios, and assignments directly responsible for the success of the VicPD Reserve Program. As a key contributor to the development of future police officers, the Reserve Coordinator plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of law enforcement professionals. They are also responsible for researching, developing, and delivering community policing initiatives that enhance public safety and foster community engagement. A strong advocate of the community policing philosophy, the Reserve Coordinator builds meaningful relationships and engages effectively with diverse community members.



Job Description: 


  • Primarily an operational uniform position, working 4 x 10 hour shifts per week. Flexibility of hours is required to facilitate program development and training, and to attend community events 
  • Recruit, select, and train Reserve Constables.
  • Develop, deliver and actively participate in the Reserve Constable training curriculum 
  • Effectively coach and mentor Reserve Constables. Guide and assist Reserves who are seeking law enforcement related careers.
  • Attend events in the community where Reserve Constables are deployed, provide active and operational supervision, to assist and support their continued development 
  • Manage the Reserve Constable Patrol Ride-along program. 
  •  Assign and coordinate Reserve Constable crime prevention activities and programs 
  • Track and report Reserve Constable volunteer hours and programs 
  • Establish and maintain Reserve Constable performance and professional standards including all incidents of alleged Police Act misconduct 
  • Work collaboratively with the OIC in Community Services Division (CSD) to manage the Reserve Budget, coordinating equipment purchases and inventory for the program 
  • Partner with the Community Engagement Division (CED), Community Services Division (CSD) and the Patrol Division to achieve community safety goals 
  • Collaborate with CSD leaders to create and manage effective community safety programming, outreach, and Restorative Justice initiatives 
  • Organize and lead reserve meetings, ensuring team growth through training opportunities for all members of the reserve program 
  • Liaise with community partners to meet community safety goals 
  • Monitor and maintain the Reserve annual budget in concert with the OIC of CSD.  Assist in forecasting future budget requests and equipment requirements for the team
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources Recruiting Section to develop and maintain an effective recruiting pipeline for the Special Constable and Recruit Constable programs

  • Demonstrated strong administrative skills by effectively monitoring and prioritizing emails, resolving scheduling conflicts, and managing task assignments
  • Demonstrated flexibility by effectively adjusting work hours and remaining available for evenings, weekends, overtime, and on-call assignments as required

Tenure for this position is 3 years, with an optional 1 year extension. (per Section 6.7 CPGs)
