System Applications Engineer
We’re seeking enthusiastic and talented electronics engineers to join our Battery Management Systems (BMS) Applications Team in Ismaning, near Munich. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of state-of-the-art battery monitoring and protection systems for electric vehicles and energy storage systems around the world. Our BMS solutions combine Analog Devices’ integrated circuits with system hardware, software and algorithms, (RF) networking, functional safety, and more. As an Applications Engineer, you’ll play a unique role, working on the intersection of product development and customer applications. This dual focus provides excellent opportunities for personal and professional growth in both technical and business domains.
We are looking for an applications engineer with a background in systems engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for developing application concepts for new ICs, gathering customer requirements, and defining solutions that address real-world challenges. Working closely together with the IC designers and the Functional Safety engineers, you will become an integral part of the IC development team.
A solid understanding of basic electronics is essential, including passive components, fundamental circuit laws, and associated mathematics. We are looking for hardware-focused candidates who enjoy working with complex systems, engaging with customers, and have broad technical interests.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to system engineering and functional safety (FuSa) design.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define customer needs and influence new product development.
- Analyze, model, and simulate system behavior.
- Author datasheet, application notes, design guides, and technical articles.
- Create and review design documentation and requirements.
- Understand complex automotive OEM and Tier 1 ecosystems and support ADI product integration for global customers.
- Debug systems and perform root cause analysis.
- Develop and execute test strategies, including writing PC or embedded code to control test equipment.
- Build proof-of-concept demos, system prototypes, and software tools to support BMS product evaluation.
- Conduct EMC modeling and testing
- Support thermal and mechanical design.
Candidate Profile
Education
- MSc in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5 years or more relevant experience
Soft Skills
- Eagerness to learn and grow.
- Enthusiasm for supporting customers and collaborating with colleagues.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and navigate a large organization.
Technical Skills (must have)
- A solid understanding of basic electrical circuits.
- Electrical circuit simulation (e.g. LTspice)
- Proficiency with lab equipment for testing and debugging.
- Working knowledge of Python.
- Familiarity with embedded system hardware.
- Skills in automation and programming for hardware or instrument control.
- Understanding of communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, I2C, UART, SPI.
Preferred (but not required) Experience
- System engineering methods and tools (Jama, Doors, etc.).
- Functional safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508).
- Battery chemistry and algorithms (SOC, SOH, etc.).
- System modeling and simulation tools (MATLAB, Simulink, LTspice, etc.).
- EMC modeling and testing.
- Low-power wireless systems, RF characterization, antenna analysis.
- Automotive or industrial system design (e.g., ASPICE, AUTOSAR).
- Using APIs to integrate with existing applications.
- Developing tools using (generative) AI.
