What is the role?

The Director of Community Impact is a visionary leader responsible for shaping and executing Westerra’s community impact strategy. This role ensures that the credit union’s partnerships, programs, and philanthropic efforts build meaningful relationships, expand reach, and demonstrate measurable outcomes that align with our brand platform, You Can Do Money. We’re looking for a Director of Community Impact who is not only strategic and experienced but also dang magic — someone who can see the big picture, mobilize teams, and inspire partners to create meaningful, measurable change together.

This leader brings strategic insight into the broader community landscape, translating emerging opportunities, partnerships, and trends into actionable plans that grow membership, strengthen trust, and amplify Westerra’s role as a community partner. They steward Westerra’s giving, volunteerism, and large-scale partnerships while inspiring internal teams and external partners alike.

What will be expected of me?

Strategic Community Impact Leadership

  • Develop and execute Westerra’s enterprise-wide community impact strategy in alignment with business goals and brand platform.
  • Identify, nurture, and grow strategic relationships with nonprofits, educational institutions, coalitions, and business partners.
  • Connect external trends, community needs, and legislative developments to opportunities for Westerra action and leadership.
  • Define, measure, and report on outcomes tied to membership growth, partner expansion, and demonstrated community impact.
  • Negotiate improvements and lead strategic change across functions.

Corporate Giving & Volunteerism

  • Serve as the steward of Westerra’s corporate giving strategy, ensuring resources are aligned with impact priorities.
  • Oversee the enterprise Volunteer Time Off program, creating structured and inspiring opportunities for staff engagement.
  • Lead signature community programs and partnerships that position Westerra as a trusted and impactful partner.
  • Attend community events relevant to business and impact needs, representing Westerra as a visible and credible leader.

Team & Partner Leadership

  • Manage, mentor, and inspire the Corporate Engagement Manager and Field Marketing Specialist, ensuring strong execution and development.
  • Build cross-functional alignment with Retail and Operations to maximize impact.
  • Represent Westerra at conferences and coalitions, serving as a credible, authentic spokesperson.

Budget & Resource Stewardship

  • Responsible for the overall budget for the Community Impact department, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Manage resources allocated to community impact initiatives to maximize outcomes.

Communication & Storytelling

  • Elevate Westerra’s community impact narrative internally and externally.
  • Develop reports, presentations, and storytelling assets that showcase Westerra’s leadership and measurable results.
  • Cascade community goals, progress, and opportunities across staff to embed impact into organizational culture.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the growth, culture, and impact of Westerra Credit Union.

What am I bringing?

Experience/Education:

  • 10+ years’ progressive leadership experience designing, building, and leading organizational or community impact programs.
  • Extensive experience leading organizations through transformational community impact programs that drive both business value and community benefit.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 
  • Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to Learn and demonstrate that learning on the job
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must maintain high-level of confidentiality
  • Accountable for the achievement of results and metrics that contribute to the success of the department
  • Uses advanced logic to make highly complex judgements with a noticeable impact on the department and functional results
  • Master of core functional area and how it fits within the organization and competitive environment
  • Ability to negotiate and influence (change, team, business units, executive leaders)
  • Ability to manage multiple areas of responsibility
  • Accountable for the performance and results of one or more lines of business or at least one unique and critical function of the business. Responsible for budgets across the same span.
  • Ensures appropriate talent selection, organization and leadership for assigned functional area(s).  Develops goals for leadership within functional area(s) and establishes team effectiveness measures.
  • Strategic relationships with leadership.

What is the work environment like, and are there physical requirements for this role?

  • Hybrid: This position follows a hybrid model, with work conducted both remotely and on-site at Westerra HQ 2-3 times per week
  • Office Setting: The role primarily involves desk work in an office environment.
  • Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Colorado or be willing to relocate prior to employment to meet payroll and state tax requirements.
  • Community Engagement: Occasional off-site attendance at business development and community events is required, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Travel Requirements: Local travel within the Denver Metro and surrounding areas (front range) may be necessary for community events and outreach efforts.

Salary: in addition to the annual rate of $98,751 - $125.908, this role is also eligible for Westerra’s self-funding reward plan. This plan pays out a cash incentive annually if Westerra hits specific criteria tied to financial goals and this role has a direct impact on the outcome of those results!
